All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ Mrs. J.E. Sikes of near Sikes, died Tuesday, the 18th at 6 o'clock P.M. She was born in the state of Mississippi in 1841. She moved from there to this State with her parents December, 1852. She joined the Ebeneezer Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 13 years. She was married to J.E. Sikes in the year 1859. She made her home in Jackson Parish until 1868 she then moved to Winn Parish where she lived until her death. Her husband J.E. Sikes, died May 7th, 1885. He served all through the civil war. There were seven children born of this union, 6 are still living. Those living are: Redmond, Webb and Joe, Mrs. Sarah Crain, Mrs. Pollyann Prince, and Mrs. Bell Walls. One son, Albert died in 1888.Grand children: 46, of which 9 are dead. Great grand children: 52, of which 10 are dead. She leaves tow brothers and four sisters to mourn her death. Her stay on earth was 83 years, two months and 7 days. A Brother.
