S. J. SHOWS Jonesboro, May 13 (Special)-- S. J. Shows, 75 years old, a pioneer citizenof Jackson parish, died at his home Sunday morning at 5 o'clock after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Hebron church, conducted by the Rev.A. N. Murray. He is survived by his widow and nine children, three sonsand six daughters, as follows: J. M. Shows of Jonesboro, S. M. Shows of Shreveport, George Shows of Bunkie, Mrs. F. P. Hudson of Marando, Texas, Mrs. E. A.Adams of Coushatta, Mrs. Jim Chandler of Dodson, Mrs. R. E. Grissom of Jonesboro,Mrs. N. L. Horton of Winnfield, and Mrs. M. B. Peevy of Jonesboro. _________________________________ NOTES: S. J. "Jackie" Shows was born in Mississippi on 31 Jan 1851, but came to LA at the age of 3 or 4 years with his father, John Pearce Shows,Sr. and family. His widow was Emma Jane Sorrels Shows, b. 2 Oct 1856; d. 1Jan 1936.* This family lived for many years in the Hebron community, north of Weston, where he farmed, operated a store and a mill, and was thepostmaster of the Hebron post office for the years it was in existence. He donated land for the Hebron Baptist Church cemetery. The daughters listed above had these given names: Mrs. Hudson--IdaJane, Mrs. Adams--Olla Myrtle, Mrs. Chandler--Nancy Esther, Mrs.Grissom--Lottie, Mrs. Horton--Marthann Eugenia, Mrs. Peevy--Catherine Narcissa. * For any researchers--The inscription on the tombstone for Emma Jane Sorrels Shows for her date of death is not correct. It reflects that she died on 1 Jan 1926. She actually died 1 Jan 1936. This marker is in the Hebron Cemetery, north of Weston.
