Funeral services for A. M. (Preacher) Vail, age 81, of Jonesboro, were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 1989 in the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Dr. Herb Dickerson and Rev. A. J. Baxter conducted the services. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Vail passed away Friday, January 20, in the Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Bienville Parish, but was a lifetime resident of Jackson Parish. Mr. Vail was a 1928 graduate of Quitman High School. He managed the Hodge paper mill recreation center when it was first built; was a veteran of World War II where he served with the Seabees; worked as a bookkeeper for the Jackson Parish School Board and several other businesses in Jonesboro. At the time of his retirement he was a bookkeeper for the Jackson Parish Sheriff's Department. "Preacher" will be remembered as a referee for basketball games all over the area. He was a lifetime member of the Northeast Louisiana Bowling Association, and Deacon of the First Baptiost Church of Jonesboro. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annine Vail of Jonesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Rasbury of Houston, Texas and Mrs. Mary McDonald of Taylor, Arkansas; One brother, Jeffie Vail of Quitman; two sisters, Mrs. Lennie Brown of Hodge and Mrs. Falba Peevy of Jonesboro; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were Bobby Vail, Donald Ray Vail, Joe Vail, Jeffie Cecil Vail, R. E. Brown, Danny Gilmore, John Earl Jimmerson and John D. Jimmerson.
