Vinson died after a short illness on October 11, 1954 in a local clinic. Mr. Vinson was the son of Mr. Marion Vinson and Mrs. Mollie Elder Vinson who came to Louisiana as young people. Mr. Vinson was born near Bernice on May 22, 1886. Most of his life was spent in Jonesboro as a succeffful businessman. Leaving here he went to gandy, where he was store manager and deputy sheriff. After retiring as store manager on account of ill health he went to Boyce, where he was plantation overseer for Dr. Sewell. Recently on account of his ill health he came back to Jonesboro where he died at the age of 68 years, 4 months, 19 days. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. October 12, 1954 at the First Baptist Church, where he had been a member since a young man. Rev. John Hurt, pastor officiating with Rev. Westbrook of Clay assisting. Pallbearers being his nephews were Brian Walsworth, Webster Vinson, Ranney Vinson, Garland Starnes, Alma Vinson, and Belvin Starnes. Survivors include two brothers, Mr. Robert Vinson and Mr. Dayton Vinson of Oakdale, La., two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Starnes of Rostown, Texas and Mrs. Mittie Walsworth of Jonesboro, La. He leaves a host of nieces and nephew to mourn him.
