Dorsey, Kenner Church Founder Pastor Lucy M. Dorsey, founder and pastor of Jesus United Pentecostal Church in Kenner for 40 years, died Sunday of heart failure at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 79. Pastor Dorsey was born in Coy, Ala., and lived in Kenner for many years. She received a key to the city of Kenner in recognition of her 20 years of volunteer work in drug rehabilitation, prison ministries and family and marriage counseling. She was active in the Democratic Party as a volunteer and fund-raiser for more than 30 years. She received a certificate of appreciation from President Clinton in 1996 for civic work. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Dorsey; a daughter, Margaret Jackson of Atmore, Ala.; a brother, Randolph McPherson of Atmore; a sister, Charlene Sayles of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Jesus United Pentecostal Church, 3145 Lexington Ave., Kenner. A wake and funeral will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, 2200 Kenner Ave., Kenner. Dismissal will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church.
