He was 80. Mr. Mayronne was born in Gretna and lived in the Covington area for the past 37 years. He was president of the Mayronne Co. and Mayronne Enterprises, companies in Harvey involved in the offshore oil industry. He also was a founding shareholder and director of Delta Downs, a horse-racing track in Vinton. Friends described Mr. Mayronne as a self-made businessman. "He was first-class," said Joe Foret of Covington, a longtime friend who worked for the Mayronne Co. as a purchasing agent. "He was of the old school. Anytime he gave you his word, you could count on it. He was morally straight, a very religious man and a good family man." Covington Mayor Keith Villere remembered playing at Mr. Mayronne's Bar M Ranch on Old Military Road north of Covington. "He was a wonderful man," Villere said. Mr. Mayronne was an honorary consul for Costa Rica and a former director of First National Bank of Jefferson. He was an oblate of St. Benedict, a parishioner of St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church and a former board member at St. Peter School and St. Scholastica Academy, both in Covington. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Nicholson Mayronne; six sons, Reuben William Mayronne III of Carthage, Texas, Robert Michael Mayronne of Mandeville, Stephen James Mayronne of Lafayette and Paul Joseph, Thomas Lake and John David Mayronne; six daughters, Maria Ello Miller of St. Francisville, Margaret Elizabeth Burns of Baton Rouge, Mary Martha Douglas of Winston-Salem, N.C., Melanie Grace Meridith, Emily Ann Dykes and Catherine Therese Almond; and 39 grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 10 a.m. at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church, 72040 Maple St., Abita Springs. Burial will be in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. E.J.
