She was 53. Mrs. McCauley was born in Gretna and lived on the West Bank for many years before moving to Jacksonville, Fla., and then to Noble, Okla., five years ago. She was working on the fourth floor of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City when it was bombed in 1995. She was pinned under her desk and was taken out of the unscathed south side of the building. Mrs. McCauley suffered several ruptured disks in her spine as a result of the bombing and lived in pain for the past few years, said her sister, Dolores Danos of Harvey. Surgery to correct one of the ruptures was unsuccessful, Danos said, and some family members think her health continued to deteriorate since the bombing. "She felt fortunate she was alive," even though she walked with a cane and had equipment attached to her back, Danos said. Officials at Norman Regional Hospital would not release autopsy results. Mrs. McCauley and her husband, Vincent Paul McCauley Jr., lived on a farm in Noble, and tended animals. She liked to ride horses, sew and work with computers, Danos said. She graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1962 and earned an associate's degree in accounting from Northwood University in 1989. A federal employee for 32 years, Mrs. McCauley was an ombudsman for Nordac in New Orleans, Patrol Squadron 49 in Jacksonville and the Strat Com Wing One in Oklahoma City. She was the secretary for the Cedar County Fire Department in Oklahoma for the past six months. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Reserve Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Norman. Besides her husband and sister, survivors include a stepson, Patrick McCauley of Atlanta, and her mother, Thelma Boffone of Marrero. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna. Source: Times Picayune 01- 17-1998
