He was 54. Mr. Robicheaux "had a genuine interest in children" and an ability to work well with teachers and parents, said George Hebert, executive director of West Bank schools. L.W. Higgins High School Principal Joseph Fennidy recalled a project he worked on with Mr. Robicheaux: to create a student-built go-cart track at Cuillier Career Center in Marrero, where Mr. Robicheaux then was assistant principal. Although both tried hard to make the track a reality, in the end it was too expensive, Fennidy said. The idea would have required students in masonry, electronics, drafting and other classes to apply what they learned in a real-life situation, a common practice in education today, he said. Mr. Robicheaux began his career in education in 1965 as an itinerant music teacher in Orleans and St. Bernard parishes. He became a teacher in Jefferson Parish in 1971 and was appointed principal of George Cox Elementary School in Gretna in 1975. He was principal at Cox until 1988, then assistant principal at Cuillier until 1996. After serving as interim principal at Joshua Butler Elementary in Westwego, he was briefly principal at McDonogh No. 26 in Gretna before retiring in October. Mr. Robicheaux was a member of the Jefferson Parish Levee Board from 1980 to 1982 and a member of the Jefferson Parish Principals Association. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, received a master's degree in music from Loyola University and did additional graduate studies at Tulane University. Survivors include a son, Brian Michael Robicheaux; a daughter, Robin Robicheaux Dupre; his father, Dalferes Frank Robicheaux Jr.; two brothers, Robert A. and Russell J. Robicheaux; and a granddaughter. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3. Times Picayune 12-19-1997
