Salvador Michael "Buddy" Mouton Jr., born June 13, 1924, in St. Martinville, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at River Region Hospice House at age 84. He was a resident of Lakeview until Hurricane Katrina when he became a resident of Kenner. He was the loving husband of the late Gloria Jean Morris Mouton for 40 years and the beloved father of Charmaine Mouton Kathmann (married to Richard Frank Kathmann) and Jeannine Mouton Fugarino (married to Anthony P. Fugarino Jr.). He was the grandfather of Nicholas Robert Kathmann, Gregory Shane Kathmann and Stephen Patrick Fugarino. He was the son of the late Salvador Mouton Sr. and Stella Brockett Mouton and the brother of James Wade Mouton and the late Stella Mouton, brother-in-law of Susan Ann Morris Hudson (married to Daniel Hudson) and Daniel Morris. He was the uncle and godfather of Karen Ann Hudson and uncle of Daniel Mark Hudson and Leslie Hudson Doyle. He also had two special friends, Ethel Holland and the late Shirley Robson. Mr. Mouton was a commercial artist and assistant art director for Jax Brewery and designed some of the original logos. He also worked for Standard Coffee and Luzianne Coffee, Dolce Advertising, Gus Levy Advertising and other New Orleans area advertising agencies. He attended SLI (Southwest Louisiana Institute) in Lafayette and was a graduate of New Orleans Academy of Art under the direction of artist Professor Skyrock and John McCrady. Mr. Mouton also designed the first annual Saints doubloons as well as the lettering for Popeyes Chicken. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Bougainville, the Solomon Islands and Luzon, Philippines. Recipient of a Purple Heart Medal and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1955 and VFW Post 6640. Salvador Mouton loved to make people laugh and always saw the good in life. Funeral services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 3700 Canal St., New Orleans. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until 8 p.m. and resuming on Tuesday, July 8, at 8:30 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Cypress Grove Cemetery.
