He was 70. Mr. Rooney was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie. He was a graduate of Alcee Fortier High School and Loyola University and was a Navy ensign during World War II. He was an insurance agent for 42 years, most recently with Insurance Underwriters Ltd. He was immediate past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater New Orleans and a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Sue" Fucich Rooney; two sons, Michael and Donald Rooney; a daughter, Peggy Rooney; a brother, John Rooney; two sisters, Mary Ellen Rooney and Betty Fitzwilliam; and two grandchildren. A mass will be said Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Mausoleum. Source: Times-Picayune, Wednesday, March 3, 1996
