His Last Will states his father was deceased and his mother was, Milly (Nelly) Anthony of Jefferson Parish. The will says he is the father of Benjamin Reily Nicholas, age 17 months by the colored woman, Emma Strander. He leaves a portion of the estate to his mother and "as much as the law allows" to his son. He was born in Hickman County, KY, lived in Louisiana 14 years, and has never married. The will is witnessed by Thomas Martin, Antoine Deneke, and Herman Langhans. Property: 2 lots with cottage in New Carrollton form the corner of Upperline (Monticello) and Pope streets & bounded by Dakin and Milton. It was aquired from Charlotte Ehrlicher on June 8, 1868. S 1868-1888 X 04026113934910 51 25 May 1858 Annunciation 000393 Petitioner: Abigail Ann Childs, wife of George A. Childs filed suit against the estate of Uriah H. Virgin. Abigail owned a lot on Pecannier (Chippewa) between Richards & Market sts. George Childs wanted to borrow against the property and Abigail signed a mortgage by John H. Burroughs on 20 Nov 1851. But, Virgin claimed ownership and evicted her in Dec 1854 using Charles Black as agent. Abigail says Virgin's claim is fraud. Virgin's widow, Mary Ann, is left with four minor children: Uriah, 20; Maria, 12; Florilla, 7; and Milo, 5. She filed her petition April 1859. Petition of Luther Holmes says George Brooks of Carrollton is indebted to him for $102.41 plus interest from May 2, 1856. Philip Mahl declares all property was acquired during the marriage of Margaret Mahl to John Miller. Elizabeth Miller says she and her mother were living apart from her father when the father died and that her step-mother, Catherine, was living apart from her father a long time. Heaton, as surety, and Philip Mahl say Caroline Miller has been managing the property in Carrollton. Property 2: 3 lots bounded by Copernic Ave, 3rd, 4th and Cuvier, each with 50' front on Copernic. This property was acquired from John S. Whitaker 24 May 1860 by an act passed in New Orleans, LA. Last will witnesses: Jacob Gross, William M. Naudain, Bernard McCabe. Willed to daughter, Catherine Jacobin Fruhling, all of the household effects, jewelry, clothes and cattle. The remainder of the estate to be split between daughter, Catherine, and son, Nicholas. Teresa excluded her son, Louis, from her estate, "because he has not treated me as a son should." Louis is eligible for his father's portion of the estate. Teresa appointed Christian A. Klinder as executor and also as tutor to Catherine and Nicholas. Michael Arendt was dative tutor from 1868-1871 of the minor children of Gerbrecht and had been required to post bond. Arendt died in 1871 and William Golsenlichter became dative tutor for the children. The heirs of Arendt are here asking the court to release Arendt from the bond. Burns. Witnesses who came forward to attest to Favelin's death: M. Zeyer, John H. Laizer, Caspar Weisz. Their signatures appear on the film at marker 754. The value of the estate was under $500 but he owned 6 lots in Mechanicham. Most of them fronted on Newton. They were in the square bounded by Newton, 7th, 8th and Copernic. He purchased them 15 Mar 1836. [NOTE Mechanicham is now part of Gretna. Copernic is Huey P. Petitioner/executor: Charles P. Bobb. Orleans property: 4 lots in 1st District bounded by Tchoupitoulas, Annunciation, Suzette, and Guienine. Acquired from James Hewitt 21 Jun 1869 and passed in NOLA. [NOTE Suzette was 3 blocks long at the river & is now 3 blocks of Erato St. Gienine is probably Gaiennie.] Signatures of C.P. Bobb, Emily Bobb, Frank Wing, Andrew J. Aikens, J.G. Eustis, E.J. Clements and James B. Walton, autioneer of NOLA are at marker 000867. Jefferson Inventory appraisers were James Hampson and Riviere Gardere. Property on the right (west) bank included 250,000 green bricks; 250,000 baked bricks; 50,000 board feet of lumber; a steam ferry. Property 1: "above tract #9" was bounded up-river by B. Saulet and Peter Able. It had 487' front on the river by 5,000 feet deep and 634 feet across the rear. It was purchased by William and Charles P. Bobb from "Mrs. Adele McCutcheon and others" 28 Feb 1857 and on 19 Jul 1860, William purchased Charles' half. Property 2: had 750' on Public Road by 5,000 feet deep, separated on one side by a road owned by the minors Destrehan and on the lower side by Louisa Destrehan, wife of Joseph H. Harvey. The property included rights to the batture (river bank) and was acquired by William and Charles Bobb from Louisa Destrehan 29 May 1849. On 19 July 1860 William bought Charles Bobb's half. Property 3: was also on the river and had long explanations. Inventory said total value $94,150.00. At marker 000899 the final Tableau said value was $109,935.57. Emily is made natural tutrix of her children: Eliza, 20; Leslie, 18; Jessie, 16; John, 12; Emily, 11. The Last Will is at marker 799. A law suit, Ernest Meville -vs- W.I. Hodgson, autioneer, was filed 28 Dec 1874 & begins at marker 000836. [NOTE the Meville name is was written as Merith, Merille, Mevilh in various places.] Jesse K. Bell & the Louisiana Ice Manufacturing Company are mentioned at marker 000837. Events regarding J.P. Thompson are discussed at 000839 and Pierre Crabites is discussed at 000844. At marker 000846 Charles Bobb is awarded Executorship and Emily Bobb is denied her executrix position. At 000871 an auction is held in New Orleans. The steam boat "Jessie" is sold to E.C. Fienour for $10,000. The autioneer's signature is at 000871. At marker 000902 it mentions Bella Bobb. At marker 903 and 904 some property was sold.
