The impact on the bank and the community is noted by brief stories of these early leaders." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ GEORGE BROWER (1889-1975) was a pioneer in the city's shopping industry. Brower, who lived for many years on Cary Avenue, has been called the "daddy" of supermarkets in Jeff Davis Parish, having defied the advice of many businessmen when he opened the first "cash" grocery shopping center in Jennings. Brower's Piggly Wiggly store not only defied the age-old custom of "charging" grocery sales to the public, but gave Jennings its first full fledged store offering "fresh from the garden" vegetables. Brower spent his final sixty-one years in Jennings and was very active in the founding of the Zigler Hotel and played a major role in the organization of the Jennings Chamber of Commerce.
