He served in World War II as a Yeoman First Class in the Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He was past president of the Welsh Chamber of Commerce and an active fundraiser for the Heart Fund. He was a member of the Temple Sinai in Lake Charles. He was a Louisiana State Fair Swine Committee member and a member of the American Rice Growers. He was an honorary Future Farmers of America Chapter farmer.
