A native of Roanoke, he was raised in the Hayes-Lake Charles area. He graduated from LaGrange High School. He pastored along the Sabine River in East Texas. His last last served as pastor at the First Assembly of God in Winnie, Texas, where he served six years. After graduating from Commonwealth Mortuary in Houston and earning his Texas funeral director's license, he moved to Leesville, where he worked for Hixson Funeral Home for 14 months. He became manager of the Vernon Funeral Home in Leesville in 1970. In 1974, he and his family moved to DeRidder, where he became manager of both Vernon and Beauregard Funeral Homes. In 1984, the Labby family purchased both funeral homes, now called Beauregard-Vernon Funeral Homes. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Louisiana and Texas. He was a member of the Louisiana Funeral Directors and National Funeral Directors associations. He was a former member and past president of the DeRidder Civitans Club and the DeRidder Lion's Club. He served two three-year terms on the Board of Directors for the Beauregard Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Beauregard Cattleman's Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in DeRidder, where he was a member of the administrative board and many other committees. He was the chairman of the Blue Ribbon Ambulance Committee, was past grand marshal of the Beauregard Fair Parade and past King Beaufair. He served as duke in the first Mardi Gras Ball in DeRidder and as king of the Mardi Gras Ball in 1996. Survivors include his wife, Margie Labby; four sons, Curtis Labby of Houston, Mark Labby of Rose, Okla., and David Labby and Frank L. Labby, both of Leesville; one daughter, Lisa Fazekas of Houston; and four grandchildren. She served as worthy advisor for the Rainbow Girls and as president of Alexandria's Fire Department Auxiliary. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters of Alexandria, serving in almost every capacity, including two years as a member of the state board. She was a charter member of the Alexandria Genealogical Society and was a charter member and co-organizer of the Jennings Genealogical Society, where she served as president. She was a charter member and past vice regent for the Live Oak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Jennings, which she helped organize.
