Mrs. Parent died at 5:24 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 1999, in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was a native of Jennings and had lived in Oklahoma City for the past 20 years. She worked as a tax clerk for Southwestern Bell. A native of Opelousas, he moved to Jennings at an early age. He joined the Army in 1942 and retired in 1972 as command sergeant major. After retiring, he became director of the City Parks and Recreation Department for two years and was general manager of the American Legion Baseball Pony League. He was president of the Jennings chapter of the NAACP and was past commander of Frank Thibodeaux American Legion Post 520, a member of Clubs 21 and 26, a member of Lake Arthur VFW Post 3244, a member of Mount Olive Masonic Lodge 202. He was commissioner in charge of placing voting machines and was a member of the U.S. Army Retirement Council for the past 21 years. He was also the proprietor of South Side Main Street Car Wash, a member of James Ward Federal Credit Union and Jennings Daily News Route Manager for 26 years. He was instrumental in the acquisition of the Jeff Davis VA Health Clinic. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary M. Pete; five sons, CSM Lawrence Pete Jr. of Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Terrence J. Pete of Raleigh, N.C., George E. Pete of Olympia, Wash., and Clarence C. Pete and Michael A. Pete, both of Jennings; four daughters, Beverly Ann Pete Perkins, Carolyn L. Pete and Michelle L. Mrs. Prescott died Monday, June 14, 1999, in the Sulphur hospital. She was a native of Jennings and had lived in Vinton for most of her life. She was a member of Smyrna Church of God in Christ, where she served as church mother, church secretary, Prayer and Bible Band president, mission president, YPWW secretary and nursery/kindergarten Sunday school teacher. Survivors include her husband, Spencer "Button" Prescott of Vinton; one son, Isiah Prescott of Union City, Calif.; five daughters, Betty M. Jackson, Theodoria Taylor and Earline Prescott, all of Vinton, and Christine Elliott of Orange, Texas, and Jacquelyne Joseph of Houston; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
