Mrs. Campbell died at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in her residence. She was a native of Amite. She graduated from Amite High School and the New Orleans Charity School of Nursing. She had lived in Jennings for 33 years after moving from Welsh. She was a TLC home health director and a Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office and police department nurse. She was a former administrator of the Welsh Hospital. She was a member of the Louisiana Registered Nurse Association and was past president of the Jennings High School Band Boosters. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the adult ladies Sunday school teacher. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Andy (Stephanie) Langley of Kinder and Mrs. Tim (Carolyn) Kilburn of Jennings; one son, Stephen H. The body was donated to science. He was a native of Lake Arthur. He earned a bachelor's degree in art from the University of Southwest Louisiana and his master's degree from the University of Colorado. He attended the doctoral program fro supervision and administration at Columbia University Teachers College. He began his teaching career in 1946 as the vocal mucis instructor at Louisiana High School in Rayeville. He taught in schools in New Orleans, Owego, N.Y., Rochester, N.Y., Hanover, N.J., and Mississippi. He was director of activities for several years at Mississippi State University. He went to Vietnam with the U.S. Agency for International Development as an adviser in 1966, and he managed several groups, including the Seabees. He was a training specialist for several companies in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the Philippines. LCAP 6/6/2000 WAIMEA, Hawaii - Funeral services for Sidney William "Bill" Cook, 71, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 8, in St. James Episcopal Church. Mr. Cook died at Thursday, June 1, 2000, in a local hospital. He graduated from Jennings High School and McNeese State College, where he played for the Cowboys football team. He was an employee of the American Press during the 1950s. He also worked as a reporter for the El Paso Times and as a bureau chief for United Press International in New Orleans and Kansas City, Mo. He was a public relations executive, journalist and North Hawaii community leader. He served in the U.S. Navy. In 1963, he moved to Hawaii and became a reporter and planning writer for The Honolulu Advertiser. He helped write the City and County of Honolulu's Model Cities grant applications, winning millions of dollars for the communities of Kalihi-Palama and Waianae. In 1968 he joined Millici Advertising Agency. He was selected in 1969 as the mayor's special assistant on housing and urban affairs. In 1972 he joined, and later bought, Communications Pacific Inc., a public relations firm. He won Hawaii's first Silver Anvil, a national award for public relations, for a pilot community project he developed on behalf of Bank of Hawaii. He moved to Waimea in 1985 after selling Communications Pacific Inc. He became executive director for the Kona-Cohala Chamber of Commerce and the Hawaii Island Geothermal Alliance. In 1987 he became the business development administrator in the Department of Business and Economic Development. He retired in 1991 and helped launch a family business known as Cook's Discoveries, a retail shop that sells Hawaii products. He was a member and past president of Waimea Exchange Club and Friends of Thelma Parker Memorial Library. He was also a member of St. James Episcopal Church and Hawaii Alliance for the Future. He was named to the Hawaii Hall of Honor by the Public Relations Society of America's Hawaii Chapter in 1997. He also received the Richard Smart Community Achievement Award in 2000. Survivors include his wife, Patti Cook, five sons and grandchildren. In 1965 as sheriff, he instituted the work release program that was later adopted by many sheriffs in the state. He served on the Lake Arthur City Council. He was a 50-year member of American Legion, a member of National Sheriff's Association, served on the executive board of Louisiana Sheriff's Association, charter member and first treasurer of the Louisiana Sheriffs for Better Law Enforcement, charter member and first president of the Jefferson Davis Parish Peace Officers Association and charter member and president of the Southwest District Law Enforcement Planning Council. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Elks Club and former parish commissioner and parish finance chairman for the Boy Scouts of America.
