A native of Gorman, Texas, he had lived in Jennings 55 years after moving from Albany, Texas. He served in the Army during World War II. He attended MacMurray College in Abilene, Texas. He was a retired district superintendent with Gulf State Utilities. He was a member and past president of the Jennings Chamber of Commerce as well as a member of the Rotary Club and Ukulele Group. He was past president of OLI School Board. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christian Catholic Church where he served as a lay leader, minister of communion, on the parish council, in the choir and as a trustee. He was a Marine Corps veteran, a retired Jennings police captain, and a deputy state fire marshal. He received numerous commendations, was an expert in firearms safety and training, and was an FBI- and NRA-certified firearms instructor. He was a member of American Legion Post 520, the VFW, JPOA and MPOA. Mrs. Guidry's survivors include one son, Randy James Guidry of Hathaway; three brothers, Lloyd Joseph Beard Jr. of Vidor, Texas, Donald R. He played French music in his own rock 'n' roll band in the late 1950s and '60s and was inducted into the Cajun Music Hall of Fame in 1990. He was honored by the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the Council for the Development of French Music in Louisiana. He was a veteran of the Navy. He served in the South Pacific on the USS Cunningham during World War II as a baker and radio dispatcher. He received the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of VFW Post 8057. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.
