The Rev. Marshall Boulet will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home. Visitation is 2-10 p.m. today in the funeral home, with a Scripture service and rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Wednesday. Dr. Sabatier died at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in a Lafayette hospital. He was a native of Elton. He was a graduate of Elton High School, and he earned a bachelor's in pre-med from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. He was a 1942 graduate of LSU medical school. He did his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1943. He served as an Army flight surgeon, and he was an Air Force captain from 1943 to 1945. He was an admitting physician at the hospital until 1946. He was resident physician at Lafayette Charity Hospital from 1946 to 1948. He started a general practice in Elton. He moved to Jennings and remained until 1979. He was president of the medical staff at Jennings American Legion Hospital. He was elected Jeff Davis Parish coroner in 1948, and he served for 31 years. He organized New Directions, an outpatient alcohol and substance abuse group, in Jennings in 1978. He was an emergency medicine physician from 1979 to 1995 in the Lafayette and Baton Rouge areas. He was a consultant to several substance abuse clinics. He was a state consultant to various long-term care centers for 20 years. He served on the Jeff Davis sanity commission for the 31st Judicial District Court. He was a member of the Jeff Davis Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society and American Medical Association. He was recognized by the AMA in 1992 for 50 years of membership. He was a founding board member of Jefferson Davis Nursing Home and Jennings American Legion Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a 35-year member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro for 10 years and at St. Paul Catholic Church in Elton for three years. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was invested into the Order of the Knights of St. Gregory and the Order of St. Charles. He received the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice Cross, and he was a charter member of the East Deanery Serra Club. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice J. Bruchhaus Sabatier; four sons, Dr. John Sabatier of Mandeville, Dr. James M. Sabatier of Oxford, Miss., and William C. Sabatier and Douglas J. Sabatier, both of Henderson; four daughters, Dr. Susan G. Sabatier of Henderson, Patricia N. Sabatier of Lafayette, Paula S. Doiron of Bogalusa and Dr. Martha S. He was a native of Joplin, Mo., and a former resident of Jennings. He had lived in Orange since 1957. He was a retired supervisor with Bethlehem Steel and worked in the shipbuilding industry. He was a member of Madison Masonic Lodge 326. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Monique Berry Turner of Jennings; three daughters, Rachelle Harmon of California and Ra'Nishaka and Jacqueline Berry, both of Jennings; one son, Christopher Berry of Jennings; two sisters, Kimberly Ann Turner of Orange, Texas, and Ronchella Hankerson of Miami; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer James (Mercedes) Turner of Lake Arthur. A native of Crowley, he had lived in Houston, Newark, N.J., and Welsh for a number of years before moving back to Crowley.
