He was a service manager for a Welsh Ag dealership for more than 30 years, the last four years being at Quality Equipment. Survivors include his wife, Linda Mallett of Hayes; one son, Ricky James Mallett of Welsh; two stepsons, Jude Aymond of League City, Texas, and Gary Aymond of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Wendy Mallett Nunez of Hayes; one stepdaughter, Melissa Aymond of Alexandria; four brothers, Ernest Mallett and Milton Mallett, both of Welsh, Eugene Mallett of Lacassine, and Wilson Mallett of Jennings; one sister, Lallie Brown of Lacassine; and 7 grandchildren. Arthur Masts — 6/16/2002 JENNINGS — Arthur Masts, 79, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, in his residence. He was a native of Latvia and a resident of Jennings. He served in World War II. He was a supervisor for the Cleveland Twist Drill Company. Survivors include his wife, Mara P. Masts of Jennings; one stepdaughter, Valda Petersone of Latvia; three sisters, Valentina Logins and Pauline Torok, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Elvira Tesvins of Canada; and two stepgrandchildren. McFarland — 6/3/2002 Floyd Elmer McFarland, 76, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a native of Jennings and had lived in Lake Charles for 30 years. He refurbished the Bull Durham mural in Jennings and had many paintings in the Zigler Museum in Jennings. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Cathedral. Survivors include his wife, Jane McFarland of Lake Charles; three sons, Mike McFarland of New Iberia, Duane McFarland of Havelock, N.C., and Greg McFarland of Cypress, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. John (Jennifer McFarland) Nichols of Lake Charles; one sister, Elnora Daigle of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Archie F. Menard WELSH — Archie Francis Menard, 73, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in the Jennings hospital. He was a native of Pine Island and a lifelong resident of Jennings. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a retired painting contractor. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians in Jennings. Hixson and Sons. Cliff Miller — 7/30/2002 LACASSINE — Cliff P. Miller, 76, died at 2:06 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, at his residence. He was a life resident of the Iowa/Lacassine Community. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 406. He served in the Army during World War II. He was recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a life member of VFW Post 7586 in Iowa. He served as Post Commander in 2001. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1996. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3006. Eli Miller — 3/31/2002 JENNINGS — Eli Miller, 85, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, in the Jennings hospital. He was a lifelong Jennings resident. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired as a custodian from Jennings High School. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and Mending Hearts Chapter 18. He was an honorary member of the FFA. He served as an usher at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings for many years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laura LeBlanc Miller of Jennings, and his sister, Gladys Hill of Lake Charles. Moore — 9/8/2002 JENNINGS — Sgt. Jeffery Jude Moore, 45, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Camp Baumholder, Germany. He was a native of Jennings and was stationed at Camp Baumholder, Germany. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Larzette “Liz” M. Moore of Baumholder, Germany; one stepdaughter, Joselyn Goetz of Baumholder, Germany; his mother, Mrs. Mayo A. He served in the Army in World War II. He was a retired Entex construction foreman. He was a member of the Cajun French Music Association. Visitation is 11 a.m.-10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Saturday. Melton H. Mott — 8/20/2002 SULPHUR — Melton H. “Big Mott” Mott, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, in his residence. He was a native of Jennings, and he had lived in Sulphur for 81 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He owned Mott’s Furniture Shop. During his early years he lived and worked at the Sulphur Mines. He dedicated most of his life to serving and volunteering with various committees and groups. He served on the board of directors for the Calcasieu Council on Aging, TRIAD, RSVP and the Calcasieu Resource Center, and he served on the CAP advisory board. He was a Calcasieu Parish school bus driver for 23 years. He retired in 1981. He and his wife were chosen as CCOA’s 1999 Mardi Gras king and queen. Sulphur Mayor Ron LeLeux proclaimed “Big Mott Day” on Aug. 14, 2002, recognizing him for his accomplishments and thanking him for the history he shared with us all. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dolores Reeves Mott of Sulphur; five daughters, Kris Fontenot of Moss Bluff, Beverly Firmin of Augusta, Ga., Debra Comboy of New Orleans, Geralyn Mott of Bangor, Maine, and Sharon Lee of San Antonio; one brother, Edgar Dewey Mott of Alvin, Texas; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was a native of Jennings, and he had lived in Gueydan for seven years. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church. He worked for Moncla Well Services for 10 years. Nash — 3/22/2002 Venice Orvid Nash, 87, of Welsh, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in a Welsh care center. He was a native of Logansport and had lived in Fenton. He served in the Army's 67th Regiment during World War II. He retired as a switcher from Penzoil in 1976 after 31 years. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Don Nash of The Woodlands, Texas, and Jimmy Nash of Welsh; one daughter, Jean Partain of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a former member of Catholic Daughters of America. She was the author of the Landry family tree. Survivors include her husband, Clifton J.
