She was a native of Roanoke. She was a 1934 graduate of Jennings High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech, and she did graduate work at the University of Tennessee. She earned fellowships at the University of Colorado and Northwestern State University. She was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the Literary Club, the Prayer Circle and the Jennings American Legion Hospital auxiliary. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a church elder. Survivors include her husband, William F. "Billy" Tietje of Jennings; two sons, John Braden of Phoenixville, Pa., and Burt Tietje of Jennings; one daughter, Margaret Braden Gallaugher of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Billy Tramel of Kinder; one sister, Mickey Rampmaier of Orange, Texas; and eight grandchildren. Visitation is 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Mr. Derouen died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in his residence. He was a native of Bell City, where he attended school and ran the commissary on the Illinois Plantation. He moved to Welsh in 1930. He served as Welsh postmaster from 1940 to 1946 and operated Derouen's Jewelry Store from 1946 to 1950. He went to work for the Calcasieu Marine Bank of Welsh in 1949 and was named assistant manager in 1951. In January of 1952, he was named manger of the Cameron branch. He was mayor of Welsh for four years and served on the city council for two years. He was a fourth-degree knight of the Welsh Knights of Columbus. He had served as Boy Scout Master and Sea Scout Master. While living in Cameron, he served as president of the Lion's Club and received the Lion of the Year award. He served as grand knight for the third-degree Knights of Columbus and served as faithful navigator for the fourth-degree Knights of Columbus. He was active in the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Elaine) Hebert of Welsh, Mrs. Terry (Beverly) Trahan of Moss Bluff, Mrs. Bobby (Glenda) Montie of Creole and Mrs. Francis (Gloria) Vanderwall of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Alberta Schlesinger — 2/18/2002 LAKE ARTHUR — Funeral services for Alberta "Bertie" Schlesinger, 91, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Miguez Funeral Home. The Rev. She retired in 1967 as a first-grade teacher, after more than 35 years. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Nola T. Mrs. Henry died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2002, in Jennings. She was a native of Gillis, and she had lived in Lake Arthur for 60 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters, which named her mother of the year. Survivors include six daughters, Thelma Kopnicky of Welsh, Mrs. Leland (Claudine) Dupuis and Mrs. David (Faye) Ardoin, both of Jennings, Walterine "Sam" LaFleur of Westlake, Mrs. Dwight (Myrna) Oliver of Lake Arthur and Mrs. Creswood (Pam) Bertrand of Kaplan; one son, Jude Henry of Dallas; two sisters, Margaret Flora of Iowa, La., and Mable Cunningham of Lodi, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was the secretary for Boy Scout Troop 64. She was a past regent of Catholic Daughters of America Court 1985. She was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the adoration chapel. She moved to Lake Charles in 1919. She graduated from Normal State Teacher's College, now Northwestern State University, and taught in Arnaudville and Cameron. She was active in many church, community, and civic organizations. She was an elder at First Presbyterian Church. She served as president of the Enterprise Club. She was also president of the Presbyterian Women of the Church on the local and state levels. She was a matron of the Calcasieu Chapter No. 164, Order of the Eastern Star. She served on the board of the Louisiana Interfaith Council of Churches and Missionary Furlough Homes in Austin, Texas, and on the General Assembly's Women's Advisory Committee. She was named Church Woman of theYear in 1976 and was awarded a Lifetime Membership in the Women of the Church. She joined the Women's Auxillary in 1960 and later served as president for several terms. She volunteered as a Pink Lady for more than 30 years. Survivors include her sons, William J. Dunn of Mercer Island, Wash., and Robert G. Dunn of Lake Charles; her sister, Mildred Cline Davis of Port Arthur, Texas; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Simon died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in the Jennings hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Jennings. He was a 1930 graduate of Jennings High School. He worked with his father in Eagle Grocery, an early 20th century business. He served in the 820th Tank Destroyer Battalion in World War II and fought in the European Theater in 1945. He served in battles in Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbons and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was a U.S. Postal employee at the Jennings Post Office and later served as postmaster at the Lake Arthur Post Office. Survivors include one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
