Hanks Leetel Joseph Hanks of Moss Bluff died at 7:16 AM, Tuesday, November 09, 2004 in his residence. He was a native of Lake Arthur and lived in the Lake Charles/Moss Bluff area most of his life. Mr. Hanks was co-owner of Hanks Barber Shop and a member of Barber's Local #542 for forty-seven years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5022 and also served as Grand Knight. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. Mr. Hanks was a previous member of St. Henry Catholic Church where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He served in the Louisiana National Guard for six years and was a charter member of the Country French Music Association (CMFA) and is in the CFMA Hall of Fame. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hanks of Moss Bluff; one son, Tommy Hanks and wife, Loretta, two daughters, Denise Reynolds and husband, Raymond, and Sandy Kallenbach and husband, Gene all of Moss Bluff; ten grandchildren, and one great granddaughter; two brothers, Johnny Hanks of Moss Bluff, and Mike McVey of Lake Charles; one sister, Shirley Taylor of Lake Charles; his mother-in-law, Natilia Broussard of Lake Arthur. Hanley, 85, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2004, in Lafayette General Hospital. He was born on Sept. 8, 1918, in Church Point. He practiced optometry in Jennings for more than 50 years. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, the Louisiana State Association of Optometrists and the South­west Louisiana Optometric Society. He was past grand knight of Columbus Council 2012 and a fourth-degree member of Monsignor Joseph Peters General Assembly. He was an Air Force veteran of the Southwest Pacific theater of operations for four years, receiving the Purple Heart award for wounds received in action. He was a member of James 0. Hall American Legion Post 19, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3686 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Rayne, received his bachelor's degree with distinction from S L I., attended L.S.U. and taught high school for four years before volunteering for the service. He received his O.D. degree fom the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis in 1947, graduating with honors before coming to Jennings to practice. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Sigma Optometric honor society, the Jennings Kiwanis Club and past president charter member of the Jennings Optimist Club. Survivors include his wife, Judy Hanley of Jennings; three sons, Richard (Julie) Hanley of Baton Rouge, Dr. Mark (Dr. Kelly) Hanley of Arlington, Texas and Michael (Maria) Hanley of LaPlace; five daughters, John (Melinda) Guarino and Daniel (Sharon) Fuselier; all of Moss Bluff, Glenn (Sheila) Miller of Lafayette, Brian (Rebecea) Hamilton of Lake Charles and Nathan (Jean) Fontenot of Jennings; 26 grandchildren; and 24 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by hIs parents, Frank H. and Corinne Lemoine Hanley; one sister, Irene Daigle; and two brothers, Hampton Hanley and Frank Hanley. Hymel, 77, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with the Rev Clyde Thomas and the Rev. Francis Appuhamy officiating. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Jane Conner Hymel, of Lake Arthur; two daughters, Mrs. Tony (Sherry) Crochet, of Lake Arthur, and Mrs. Gene (Lana) Paul, of Oakdale; two sons, Keith and wife, Paula Hymel, of Gueydan, and Dennis and wife, Chris Hymel, of Lake Arthur; two sisters, Dorothy Fletcher, of Lake Arthur, and Mrs. Ellis (Eula Mae) Weeks, of Mount Olive, N.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Eucrelia Richard Hymel; one daughter, Madeline Trahan; and one son, Billy Hymel.
