Eunice C Whitaker (LCAP) 7-03-2004 WELSH- Eunice Catherine McMichael Whitaker, 50, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 in a Jennings hospital. She was born in Shirleytown, MA, was formerly a resident of Georgia, and moved to Welsh about a year ago. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Welsh. Survivors include her husband, Gary Whitaker of Georgia; father, Herman Lee Thompson of Mississippi; three daughters, Heather Brock of Welsh, Kimberly Fontenot and Cynthia Fontenot both of Georgia; one step-daughter, Myranda Slick of Georgia; three brothers, David Porter Thompson, Charles Thompson and Timothy Thompson, all of Georgia; seven grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4, in the First Assembly of God Church of Welsh. Rev. Dennis House will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Hixson funeral Home of Welsh. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 - 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 Sunday,at the funeral home, and from 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the church. A native of Jennings, Louisiana, (Born: June 27, 1940) Herman lived most of his life in Grand Lake, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Grand Lake High School receiving his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from McNeese University. He was a member of Grand Lake Faith Temple. He was retired having worked as a field representative for Walker Properties and was a deputy with the Cameron Parish Sherriff's Department, where he was started and administered the DARE program of Cameron Parish. Survivors include his wife, Murrel D. Precht of Grand Lake; Son, Tommy Precht and wife, Yvette of Grand Lake; Nephew, Jamie Brown of Grand Lake; Sisters, Nancy Nunez and husband, Garner of Grand Chenier, Pat Faulk and Debbie Howerton and husband, Pat of Grand Lake; Brother, Phil Precht and wife, Val of Grand Lake, Grandchildren, Seth Custer, Ethan Precht, and Erin Precht. Dougherty (LCAP) 7-14-2004 Born: March 9, 1915 Died: July 13, 2004 Funeral services for Audrey G. Dougherty, 89 of Sulphur, will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 15, 2004 from the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home Chapel the Rev. Anna McArthur (granddaughter-in-law) will officate. Burial will be in the Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Sulphur, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Dougherty died in the Guardian House in Lake Charles on Tuesday, July 13, 2004. Visitation will be at the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday July 14, 2004 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Thursday July 15, 2004 from 8:00 AM until service time. Mrs. Dougherty was born on March 9, 1915 to Bertrand and Lezina Garbarino in Elton, Louisiana. Mrs. Dougherty served in the Womens Wave of the US Navy during World War II. Having completed faithful service to her country she moved to Sulphur where she lived most of her life, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and also a member of Calcasieu Members of Educators. Mrs. Dougherty taught elementary school in Sulphur for many years and retired from RW Vincent in 1974. Survivors include two sons; Michael A. (Tony) Dougherty of Sulphur, Kenneth L. Dougherty of Richmond, Virginia, one daughter; Marilyn McArthur of Austin, Texas, two brothers; Bruce Garbarino of Elton, Louisiana, Medwyn Garbarino of Lafayette, Louisiana, four sisters; Melba Hutchinson of Sugarland, Texas, Wilma Jacobs of Atlanta, Georgia, Loyce Steiner of Elton, Louisiana and Ruth Horton of Tampa, Florida, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde A "Joe" Dougherty.
