BELLARD, Walter D. “Bill” LCAP 12/14/12005 Walter D. “Bill” Bellard, 83, died at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Bellard was born and raised in Jennings. He lived in Lake Charles for some 30 years, before moving to McAllen, Texas, where he lived for more than 20 years. He presently was living in Lake Charles since 1990. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force. Mr. Bellard retired as a sales representative from Hunt- Wesson Foods after 41 years of dedicated service. While employed there, he received awards for the Salesman of the Year in both 1972 and 1973. He was well loved and respected by people in the grocery industry in Southwest Louisiana and South Texas. He was an active member of Boulevard Church of Christ for 15 years. He also served as a volunteer for AARP as an income tax preparer for 10 years. His favorite pastimes were fishing and spending time with his granddaughters. Mr. Bellard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Thevenot Bellard of Lake Charles; one daughter, Monica Johnson and husband Mickey of Port Lavaca, Texas; and two granddaughters, Katie Elizabeth Johnson of Orlando, Fla., and Lindsay Ruth Johnson of San Marcos, Texas. ARTICLE BY MIKE JONES LCAP 01/01/2006 IN JEFF DAVIS Man killed in one-car accident LAKE ARTHUR — A 23-year-old Lake Arthur man was killed in a one vehicle accident Saturday morning on Fox Road east of La. 26, according to State Police Troop D. The victim, Dereck Benoit, was killed upon impact with a utility pole. Benoit was the driver. A passenger, David Weckerly, 17, received moderate injuries and was taken to Jennings American Legion Hospital, troopers said. The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, went into a ditch and hit the pole, troopers said. Drug and alcohol tests are pending. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seat belts, troopers said. Trooper Cliff Mire is investigating. BENOIT, MayBelle H. Native of Gueydan, she was a resident of Lake Arthur since 1940. She was a homemaker with great cooking skills and an excellent seamstress. Her main hobbies were traveling, gardening and dancing. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was selected Mother of the Year in 1979. She was a very faithful person and practiced her Catholic faith very devoutly. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and Ladies Altar Society; former member of Cameron Parish Home Demonstration Club; former president of the FFA Mother’s Club; and former cafeteria manager of the Lake Arthur and Goretti Catholic schools. BOURQUE, George Adam LCAP 04/09/05 GEORGE ADAM BOURQUE, 74, joined his Father in Heaven on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in Houston following a year long battle with complications resulting from severe burns. He was born on September 18, 1930 in Welsh, Louisiana. He is survived by his daughters Connie L. Bourque, Monte T. Perry and husband Christopher, and Traci G. Bourque-Johansson and husband Perry. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Austin, Tatum, Hanna, Ayden, and Lucien, and his sister Rita Hardy. George was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Service Battalion, 2nd Marine Division between 1949 and 1952 and was awarede the Korean Service Medal and the U.N. Service Medal. He was a garduate of Class # 11 of the Houston Police Academy and served over 21 years as a police officer in the community he loved. Mr. Borque also a proud alumni of the University of Houston having graduated with degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science. The Texas State Senate honored him with a commendation for his 50 years as a licensed Real Estate Broker. A resident of Elton, she was born on July 3, 1918, in Crowley to Clemile (Tim) Linscomb and Celozie Bellard Linscomb. She graduated from Elton High School in 1936 and was married to John Medwyn Broderick in December 1937. Following 28 years of military life with her husband, she returned to Elton where she remained until her death. She was a retired beautician, an accomplished seamstress and an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she was a former CCD instructor, member of the choir and recipient of the Bishop’s Devotional Service Medal. She and her husband were sponsors of three Cambodian and one Polish family over the past 30 years, assisting them in obtaining permanent residence and United States citizenship. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Emile and Emery Linscomb; one sister, Elvie Linscomb Bergeron; a granddaughter, Dara Dewees; a great-grandson, Aaron Michael Chretien; and her husband of 54 years, John Medwyn Broderick. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Broderick Dewees of Elton; her son, John Michael Broderick of LaPlata, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. A2 column 3 LaVerne Brown LCAP 11/23/2005 WELSH — LaVerne Brown, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in a local care center. She was a native of Florien and had been a resident of Welsh for the last 59 years. LaVerne was a member of First Baptist Church of Welsh and was active in the Carr Town Neighborhood Prayer Group. She loved to sew and cook and was an avid hunter. She will be remembered as a wonderful caregiver, helping anyone in need. We can all picture Chuck in his hunting gear ready to spend some time in God’s country — he touched so many lives and along the way held many different names.
