She was born in Chatagnier, raised in Eunice and had been a resident of Welsh since 1967. She was a 1955 graduate of St. Edmund High School in Eunice and a 1956 graduate of T.H. Harris Vo Tech School in Opelousas. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters, and she was a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to shut- ins. She had taught catechism in the past. She had been a Cub Scout den mother and was a supporter of the local Boy Scout troop. She was a past member and officer of the Welsh Band Boosters. She had been employed by Welsh General Hospital and Extended Care Facility and Welsh Home Health Agency. She was a volunteer at the Welsh Golden Age Nursing Home. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who touched the lives of everyone she met. Survivors include three sons, Charles "Chuck" Garner III of Lake Charles, Brent Garner and his wife, Sheila, of Sulphur and Morris Conrad "Marcy" Garner of Los Angeles; one daughter, Kathryn Annette Matthew of Iowa and her fiancé, Rick Matte; one brother, Charles Lee Manuel of Phoenix; sister- in-law, Anita Garner Antoine of Lafayette; three grandsons, Christian Matthew and Gregory and Daniel Garner; four nephews; one niece; and numerous relatives, friends and former co-workers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Garner Jr.; and her parents, Okley and Hilda Manuel. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, from Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. The Rev. Whitney Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. GARY, Lerecia LCAP 12/12/2005 JENNINGS — Funeral services for Lerecia “Tokie” Gary, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, in Matthews and Son Funeral Home. She died Saturday, Dec. 10, in Jeff Davis Living Center. Interment will be in Gary Cemetery. The Rev. Edward Brunnert will conduct the service. Mrs. Gary was a native and resident of Jennings. She was a retired cook with the Jennings American Legion Hospital. She enjoyed her family, dancing and gardening. Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Richard and her husband Lance of Jennings; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eustache and Eva Lopez Gary; her husband, Etienne Gary; one son, A.J. Gary; one daughter, Theresa Gary; and one stepson, Melvin Gary. GARY, Melvin Joseph LCAP 11/28/2005 JENNINGS — Funeral services for Mr. Melvin “Red” Joseph Gary, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 28, 2005, at Miguez Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jude Brunnert officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Bertrand Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. A rosary was recited Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Funeral home visitation will be from 8 a.m. today, Nov. 28, until the time of service. Mr. Gary died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of the Jennings-Hathaway area, Mr. Gray served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War. He was a retired rice and soybean farmer of 25 years and retired Jeff Davis Parish school bus driver of 10 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he served as an usher; a member of the Knights of Columbus; a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3686; member of the American Legion Post 19; and president of the Bertrand Cemetery Association and the cemetery’s sexton. He loved to hunt, fish and camp, and loved doing woodworking for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Kratzer Gary of Jennings; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina Marie and Michael Newsom of Jennings; three sons, Euman “Butch” Gary, Bryan “Pappy” Gary and Roderick Gary and wife, Donna, all of Jennings; one sister, Lezia Vidrine of Eunice; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gatte died at 10:26 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at her residence. She was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Jennings. She was married to Richard Lee Gatte Sr. for 49 years. Mrs. Gatte loved reading, sports and activities with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ladies’ Altar Society and the Adoration Chapel. Visitation will be today from 8 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Gatte is survived by her husband; two sons, Richard Gatte Jr. and his wife, Drusilla, of Lake Arthur, and Kyle Gatte of Jennings; three daughters, Christine Gatte of Baldwin, Paula Gatte of Slidell and Marelle LeLeux and her husband, Keith, of Lake Arthur; one brother, A. GIGGAR, Leo Alfred MEMPHIS, TENN.- Leo Alfred Giggar, 78, born and raised in Welsh, died Feb. 8, 2005 at Bright Glade Convalescent Home in Memphis, Tenn. Leo, a World War II Army veteran and the eldest son of the late Leo V. and Ada Giggar of Welsh, had suffered a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Margie Landry Giggar, now living in Memphis; two brothers and a sister, Vernon and Mike Giggar and Wanda Jolie of Welsh; three children, Jan Giggar of Little Rock, Ark., Monya Johnson (Mrs. Robert E. Johnson) of Memphis and Jennifer Primeaux of Estherwood; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Leo worked in Lafayette as instrument and measurement tech with United Gas Pipeline, eventually retiring in the Oakdale office. She was a graduate of Welsh High School, Dominican College in New Orleans and McNeese State University. She was a retired teacher, having taught in the Hathaway community most of her life. She was a founding member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, and she directed the church choir for several years. She was the recipient of the Order of St. Charles, a special diocesan honor. He graduated from Lake Arthur High School in 1983. He was a tankerman on the tugboats for Devall Towing Co. He was a sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Survivors include his parents, Alvin and Della Marceaux Guidry of Jennings; one sister, Leslie Jeanise of Shreveport; three brothers, Mark W. KLFY.com April 8, 2005 Body of Missing Acadiana Man Found in Texas The body of a missing Lake Arthur man has been recovered (april 6)from Galveston Bay. Carlton Guidry disappeared Monday when the tugboat he was on overturned and sank about two miles east of Eagle Point near Galveston. Two other crew members were rescued by a nearby oyster boat. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. GUIDRY, Lola LCAP 08/11/05 JENNINGS — Lola Guidry, 82, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005. Burial will be in Lopez Cemetery GUIDRY, Norris Joseph Sr. LCAP 02, 20/2005 Norris Guidry, Sr., 88, of Lake Charles died at 4:45 PM, Thursday, February 17, 2005 in a Winnie, TX hospital. He was a native of Kaplan, LA and lived in Lake Charles for over forty years prior to moving to Winnie, TX in 1979. Mr. Guidry worked as a contractor for the Oak Park Development before opening the Norris J. Guidry Construction CO. He also worked for F. Miller and Sons, until his retirement. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and Charter Member of Knights of Columbus Counsel #3208. Mr. Guidry was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church before moving to Winnie, TX where he became a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. A self-educated man, he was proud of all that he accomplished. Fond memories of him will include his ability to make people laugh, how proud he was to have served in the CCC Camps during the 1930's and his love for his grandchildren and his faith that exceeded all boundries.
