A talented painter and self-employed contractor, he attended LaGrange High School. He was of the Christian faith and loved his lord and his family. He was a member of Living Way Pentecostal Church. She was a member of Power House Church of God in Christ, where she was a licensed evangelist missionary and actively involved in auxiliaries such as the Bible Band. (WELSH) LCAP 08/11/05 Claude P. Miller, 84, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005. He was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Welsh, to Henry and Melise Miller. Moving from Texas, he resided in Singer for the past 34 years. Survivors include one son, Peter Miller of Fields; one stepson, John Boyd of DeQuincy; one stepdaughter, Mae James of Deer Park, Texas; one sister, Virgia Greener of Angleton, Texas; one grandson; three stepgrandsons; seven stepgranddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and 17 step- great-grandchildren. Claude Miller enlisted into the Army on Oct. 31, 1940, and served until June 24, 1945. He served his country during World War II as staff sergeant with the 39th infantry under General Eisenhower and participated in the First Wave of the Normandy Invasion. Claude took great pleasure in his hobbies, which included playing Cajun music on his fiddle, woodworking, fishing and hunting. He loved the outdoors, until his illness hindered this, you could find him on the river camping or sitting outside his home watching his great-grandchildren play. Claude Miller was employed by Brown and Root as a blacksmith for 27 years, also with Fire Safety of Southwest Louisiana as a fire-safety specialist. MONCEAUX, Joseph C. LCAP 12/21/2005 Lifelong resident of Lake Arthur, Joseph Chester Monceaux, 86, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Acadiana, Lafayette. Mr. Monceaux was a retired grocer, businessman and property owner and was a respected figure in the local community. Born in 1919, to Fred and Evelyn Monceaux, Mr. Monceaux, the eldest son in a family of eight children, grew up on the family farm in the Klondike area south of Lake Arthur. After marrying Marie Joyce Broussard on Nov. 4, 1939, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Japan during the occupation prior to being discharged in 1946. After his discharge, he returned to farming, hunting and trapping the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway near his birthplace. In 1954, he left farming and opened Monceaux’s Grocery Store, which he and Mrs. Monceaux owned and managed until 1969, when it was destroyed by fire. Never one to retire, he continued managing real estate properties, lawncare and fur businesses for years after leaving the grocery store. A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Monceaux was an avid gardener, cook and winemaker, often blessing friends and neighbors with small packages of his produce and wine during his frequent morning walks through Lake Arthur. Mr. Monceaux was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Parish, and received recognition as Father of the Year in 1990. Ever present to those in need, he will be missed by his family, friends, church and community. "Roy" Myers Mr. U. R. "Roy" Myers, 83, of Lake Charles died at 11:20 PM, Tuesday, April 12, 2005 in a local hospital. He was a native of Jennings and lived in Lake Charles over fifty years. Mr. Myers was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as a Supervisor for the Iron Workers at Hercules until his retirement. He was a member of Iron Workers Local #678.
