BERNARD — Cecil Edison Sanders, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in St. Bernard. Beloved husband to the late Neva Estelle Anding Sanders, Mr. Sanders was a native of Ringgold and a resident of Roanoke for the past 20 years, having recently moved to St. Bernard in August 2004. Mr. Sanders was a member of First Baptist Church in Jennings and the Builders Sunday School Class. He also was a Mason and Shriner. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Sanders; mother, Lillia Davis Sanders; and three brothers, Reese, Zack, and Hollis Sanders, who were all proud workers in the Louisiana oil fields. He was the father of Melba Sykes of Princeton, Troy and Marvin Sanders of Ringgold, and Michael L. Sanders Sr. of St. Bernard; father-in-law of Delores Sanders, Martha Sanders, Janis Sanders and the late George Sykes; and grandfather of Ray Shepherd, Jim Bell, Bill Bell, Leslie Sanders, Mike Sanders Jr., Cecilia Sanders, Susan Bagley, and the late Charles Shepherd. Mr. Sanders is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. SCOTT, Raymond "Reb" Sr. LCAP May 20, 2005 Raymond "Reb" Scott Sr., 55, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, in a local hospital. Born in Welsh, he lived in Fenton all of his life. He was a member of Greater St. Joseph Baptist Church, where he was a member of the male chorus and director of parking ministry. He was employed by Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Gauthier Campus. SENSAT, Batson Joseph LCAP 12/15/2005 Batson Joseph Sensat, 89, of Lake Charles, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005. Mr. Sensat was born and raised in Jennings, and lived most of his life in Lake Charles. In his younger life, he was a partner in ownership and operation of a local radio and television repair shop. He enjoyed the spirit of the many children in his life as he drove a school bus for the Calcasieu Parish School Board before retiring after more than 20 years of service. Mr. Sensat had a great love of Cajun French music and was a talented accordion player. He was also an avid fisherman.He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles for 60 years and was a deacon of the church. He was survived by his daughter, Nancy Sensat Higginbotham and husband Ronald of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Nicole Sensat, Jessica Sensat, Matthew Higginbotham and Christopher Higginbotham, all of Lake Charles; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilson Sensat of Lake Charles; the mother of his youngest daughter, Lee Sensat of Lake Charles; and a loyal and dedicated friend, Amelia Sensat of Sulphur. A native of Marion, Mr. Smith was a graduate of Dodson High School in Dodson. He attended Barber School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was discharged honorably as staff sergeant. He retired from Superior Oil Co. as a plant foreman after 37 years. A part-time barber, he was an avid LSU fan. He was a charter member of the Lake Arthur High School School Varsity Club. He was an accomplished musician, having studied and taught for Stamps-Baxter School of Music, and was known for his knowledge of music theory. He was a member of Lake Arthur Live Oak Lodge of the Masons and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star; First Baptist Church, where he served as director of music for eight years; and the men’s Sunday school class. Survivors include his wife, Maggie Smith of Lake Arthur; one son, Kent Smith of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, the Rev. Wayne and wife Arlene Dartez of Lake Charles; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Bernice John (Cathy Dartez) Sonnier of Welsh; one sister, Ruby Dark-Prince of Frederick, Md.; one brother, the Rev. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jennings; he served on various church committees. He was a retired school principal. He had a bachelor’s and a master’s degree with a specialization in education and administration. He was a member of the Louisiana Principal’s Association, Louisiana Retired Teacher’s Association, Jeff Davis Retired Teacher’s Association and Louisiana Education Association. He was an officer in the Jeff Davis Retired Teacher’s Association and was on the advisory board for the Bank of Southwest. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Fontenot Spears of Jennings; daughter-in-law, Myra Spears of Jennings; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Lewis and Claudia Jo Spears of Pitkin; two granddaughters, Thea Madison and Molly Claire Spears, both of Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews. STEWARD, Elza JENNINGS — Funeral service for Miss Elza Stewart, 95, will be at 4 p.m. Friday, April 22, in Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. The Rev. Jimmie D. Pyles will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. Friday. Miss Stewart died at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in the Jeff Davis Living Center in Jennings. A native of New Orleans, Miss Stewart was a resident of Jennings most of her life. She was a graduate of Jennings High School and former employee of the Jennings Daily News. She was a retired secretary for the Jeff Davis Parish School Board. She was a charter member of the Jennings American Legion Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies). She was honored for having sung for 25 years with the Lake Charles Messiah Chorus. She also was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church and former member of the church choir. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Jeannette) Mercer and Mrs. R.A. (Dot) Berry, both of Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl R. and LaReine McClung Stewart; and one brother, Kenneth E. Stewart. Pallbearers will be Artie Berry, Bob Mercer, Clarence Berkin, Erik Berkin, David Berkin and Brownie Goodreau. STOCKMAN, Shannon T. Crowley Post May 2005 JENNINGS – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20 at Matthews and Son Funeral Home for Shannon Todd Stockman, 35, who died Monday, May 16, 2005 in Oakley, Wyo. Interment will be in Tee-Mamou Cemetery. Rev. Chad Brown will conduct the service. Mr. Stockman was a native of Jennings and a resident of Rayne. He was employed with Nabors Drilling for four years. He loved being with his family, fishing, swimming at the beach and working. Survivors include his wife, Dana M. Stockman of Rayne; four sons, Chance Stockman, Cade Stockman and Drakenin Leckelt, all of Rayne and Jacob Authement of Jennings; his mother, Nora L. DeRamus of Rayne; two brothers, Lawrence Stockman and his wife Michelle of Basile and Stevie Joe Stockman of Jennings; one godchild, Bethany Stockman; five nephews and six nieces. His is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Stockman and his grandparents, Wedley LeJeune and Lismar Deshotel Guillory. Visitation began Thursday 11 a.m. and will continued until time of service Friday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings.
