She was a native of Gotts Cove and had been a resident of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico for the last 13 years. She enjoyed camping at Toledo Bend and was a very hard worker. Survivors include her husband, Reuben Vanegas of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico; two sons, Rodney Lopez and wife, Brenda of Lacassine, and Ronald Lopez of Seattle, Washington; five daughters, Anna Witherwax and husband, Eddie of St. Louis, Missouri, Lou Ella Houston of Lake Charles, Ellen Abshire and husband, Wilson of Welsh, Beulah Giddings and husband, Joe of DeVille, and Judy Petry and husband, Steven of Elk City, Oklahoma; one sister, Estelle Sensat of Gotts Cove; 20 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Yeumen Lopez; and a grandson, Josh Houston. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. The Rev. will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, James Houston, Kevin Lopez, Heath Abshire, Austin Abshire, Deayne Petry, Cliff Lopez, Daniel Lopez, and Brandon Lopez. Burial will be in Lacassine Cemetery. VERONIE, Ellen LCAP 11/20/2005 JENNINGS — The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, from Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church for Ellen Veronie, 86, who died Thursday, Nov. 17, in Jeff Davis Living Center. The Rev. Edward Brunnert, M.S., will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Mrs. Veronie had been a Jennings resident since 1956. She was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, served as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Mother Cabrini 1468, Ladies Altar Society and Legion of Mary. She served as CDA Court Cabrini 1468 grand regent and received the CDA daughter of the year award for 1968. Her greatest loves were family, friends, her faith, helping others and laughter. Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Veronie of Jennings; two granddaughters, Rhonda Venable of Nashville, Tenn., and Lisa Manuel and husband Dr. Gary Manuel of Alexandria; and three great- grandsons, Chad Manuel, Jay Manuel and Nicholas Venable. A3 WELSH — Freddie Vickers, 70, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a veteran of the Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curley and Timmie Vickers; two brothers, James Vickers and Curley Vickers Jr.; and six sisters, Martha Edwards, Lorena Shillow, Hazel Bennett, Della Eaglin, Essie Mae Cahee and Mary Ann Drake. Crowley Post April 2005 VINCENT, LeRoy “Nick” LCAP 12/30/2005 HERRIN, Ill. — LeRoy “Nick” Vincent, 79, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at his residence, in Herrin. LeRoy was born on June 21, 1926, in Lake Arthur, to Nickamel and Eloise (Benoit) Vincent. He married Peggy Sweeney on Feb. 9, 1951, in Lake Charles. Mr. Vincent spent most of his adult life in the Sulphur/Lake Charles area. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed on the USS Guadalcanal, which was the first ship since the 1800s to capture the 505 German Submarine which is now located at the Chicago Museum. LeRoy retired from Cities Service Refinery after 35 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, and St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Sweeney Vincent of Herrin; son, Ronnie Lynn Vincent and wife Kathy of Nederland, Texas; daughter, Kayla Vincent Rosetta of Herrin; two sisters, Laurice Beck of Nederland, and Marjorie Ellender and husband Henry of Sulphur; brother, Norbert Vincent of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Johnson Funeral Home. Father Charles McMillin will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Sulphur. A native of Lake Charles, Mr. Vincent was a resident of Jennings since 1985. He graduated from Ohio Christian College in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree. He graduated in 1973 from Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma for respiratory therapy. He retired as a registered respiratory therapist, having worked as director of that department in the Jennings American Legion Hospital 10 years. Mr. Vincent was very interested in genealogy and had his own Web site, Cajun roots. com. He was Pentecostal. Survivors include his wife, Deborah T. Vincent, of Jennings; one daughter, Pam Vincent of Lake Charles; one stepdaughter, Elisa Duhon of Jennings; five sons, Raymond Vincent Jr. and Thomas Vincent, both of Mississippi, Walter Vincent and Michael Vincent, both of Tennessee, and Roger Vincent of California; two stepsons, Joel Neal of Jennings and Ricky Neal of Iota; three brothers, Gary Vincent of Florida, Ronnie Vincent of Lake Charles and Robert Vincent of Houma; six grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dorothy Porter Vincent Sr.; and one brother, Louis Vincent Jr.
