Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery. Anthony Green will conduct the service. Mr. Gallow was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Jennings. He served as elder and full time minister for 22 years for the Christian congregation of Jehovah Witnesses in Jennings. He volunteered his time almost on a daily basis, assisting people to learn the Bible. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Christine N. Gallow of Jennings; two sons, Brian Dixon of Baton Rouge and Ellis Dixon of Jennings; one daughter, Sarah Gallow of Jennings; one aunt, Ida Ann Deshotel of Ville Platte; and two grandchildren, Daisha Johnson and Janya Dixon. He was preceded in death by his son, Van Dixon and his mother, Slyvia Frelix. The family has requested that visitation be 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday. Parnell Trent will officiate. She died at 2:37 p.m. Friday, July 7, in a local hospital. Born in Lafayette, she lived in Jennings most of her life. She was a graduate of Jennings High School, attended McNeese and was employed by Jeff Davis Nursing Home as a nurse assistant. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, secretary of the choir and a memberr of the Women’s ministry and mission department. Survivors include sons, Dedrick Gant, Melvin Lewis and Trey J’Wan Gant, all of Jennings; brothers, Alonzo Gant, Robert Gant and George Gant, all of Jennings; sisters, Ruby Gant of Dallas, Latrisa Gant and Yolanda Gant, both of Jennings; sister-in-law, Audrey Gant of Jennings; and four grandchildren. GAY, Marcia Porter LCAP 03/10/2006 Marcia Porter Gay, 62, died Tuesday, March, 7, 2006, in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Marcia was born April 23, 1953, and lived most of her life in Welsh before moving to Lake Charles 14 years ago. For 14 years, she dedicated her life to Potter’s House, a shelter for homeless women and children, where she was greatly loved. She was a native and lifelong resident of Welsh. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Welsh. Mrs. Gillett was a 1935 graduate of Welsh High School. She was a graduate of Southwest Louisiana Institute, presently known as ULL. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp while attending Touro Infirmary School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at several hospitals including Welsh Medical Center working under Dr. McClure. She was also the head nurse at Welsh General Hospital. She was a member of Rebecca Chapter 2 in the Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 283, United Methodist Women, and she was a docent at the Welsh Museum. Survivors include three sons, Henry William Gillett Jr. of Carencro, John David Gillett and wife Kay of Welsh, and Thomas Allen Gillett and wife Tammy of Lake Charles; one daughter, Nancy Ruth Sato and husband Lynn of Lawai Kauai, Hawaii; one sister, Thelma Fern Grush of Metairie; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She loved her church, reading the Bible, sewing, shopping and helping others. She loved to plant flowers and loved being a housekeeper, as well as visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, where she was a lay minister and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Groth died at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Elton and was a 1930 graduate of Elton High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech in 1934. He earned his master’s degree in education from USL in 1961. He was an educator throughout his life in Jeff Davis Parish, from 1935 to 1972. He taught in Welsh in 1935 and then taught and coached in Lake Arthur. He served as principal of both Elton and Hathaway high schools. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for many years, and he served as both lector and Eucharistic minister. He received the Order of St. Charles for devoted service to the church. Survivors include two daughters, Gayle G. Fontenot of Hathaway and Joan G. Miner of San Antonio; two sons, Monsignor Ronald C. Groth of Hathaway and Robert E. Groth of Lake Charles; one brother, Walter Groth of Broussard; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred A. and Lora Fulton Groth, and his wife of 69 years, Neva Ducote Groth. Survivors include his wife, Earline Kibodeaux Guidry of Lake Arthur; two daughters, Kathy G. Dugas and special friend Eric of Baton Rouge, and Dana G. LeBlanc and husband Arthur of Lake Arthur; three step-daughters, Rebecca Welch of Lake Arthur, Dayna Hoffpauir and husband Mitch of Hayes, and Christelle Hanks and husband Michael of Lafayette; two sons, Robert W. “Bobby” Guidry and wife Della, who was his special nurse and Dennis James Guidry and special friend Mitchell, all of Lake Arthur; one sister, Shirley Dupuis of Jennings; special grandson and light of his life, Jason and a special friend Jason Manuel; nine grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Guidry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Angelle Fruge Guidry Jr.; and two sisters, Deanna Conner and Veronica Guidry. GUILBEAU, Dr. H.F. LCAP 03/28/2006 Dr. Hugh Francis Guilbeau died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in Jennings American Legion Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Hoffpauir Guilbeau; one son, Hugh Guilbeau Jr. of Jennings; one daughter, Catherine Denoncourt of Concord, N.H.; three grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Dr. Guilbeau was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eaton Guilbeau and Corinne Junca Guilbeau, and one brother, Col. Lee Junca Guilbeau. Dr. Guilbeau was born March 29, 1918, in Branch. He graduated from Rayne High School and did his predental studies at ULL, then called SLI. He graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a doctor of dental surgery degree. Dr. Guilbeau served in the Army as a medical officer and was in the North African and Italian campaigns during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of captain and subsequently moved to Jennings, where he opened his dental practice. He was active in local civic affairs until his death. Dr. Guilbeau was instrumental in the founding of Jennings American Legion Hospital and was the first secretary of the board of directors. He was the vice president of the board. He was active all of his adult life in the American Legion and served as commander of James O. Hall Post 19. He had been finance officer of that post for 20 years. He was a member of the Forty and Eight branch of the Legion. Dr. Guilbeau was active in the Kiwanis Club, serving as state lieutenant governor. He also was a member of the VFW and Elks Club. Dr. Guilbeau was an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. He was proud of the fact that he was the great-great-grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Smith of Grand Coteau, who donated the land and founded Academy of the Sacred Heart and St. Charles College in that town. He was a great-great-great-grandnephew of Archbishop Martin John Spalding of Baltimore. Through the Spalding family he was a descendant of one of the first and oldest Catholic families in America. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, from Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church of Jennings. Burial will be in Old Protestant Cemetery in Crowley under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6 p.m., in the funeral home. He was a car salesman for 25 years and was ranked in the top 50 in the nation before his illness. He was a member of Blake Street Church of Christ. Ryan enjoyed wrestling, listening to music, and spending time with his family. He was a research patient with the National Institutes of Health. Ryan never met a stranger, and his smile will be remembered by anyone who met him.
