He was a lifelong resident of the Thornwell/Welsh area. A retired farmer, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, in Oklahoma. The Rev. Clyde Thomas will conduct the service. He died Friday, July 7, at the Golden Age Nursing Home of Welsh. Interment will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery with full military rites. Mr. LaFosse was a native and resident of Welsh and a former resident of Lake Arthur. He served in the Navy. He loved being with family and friends, and he also liked to barbeque, hunt, watch sports and travel. Survivors include two sons, Stephen LaFosse and his wife, Brenda, and Raylan LaFosse and his wife, Irene, all of Jennings; three daughters, Bonnie LeDoux and her husband, Stephin, of Jennings, and Angie Broussard and her husband, Gayland, and Paula Sonnier and her husband, Kevin, all of Lake Arthur; his mother, Olive Broussard LaFosse of Welsh; five brothers, Henry LaFosse of Evangeline, Roy LaFosse of White Bear Lake, Minn., Jim LaFosse of Lake Arthur, Raymond LaFosse of Fenton and Thomas LaFosse of Welsh; 11 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. LAMBERT, James Monroe LCAP 03/28/2006 LAFAYETTE — James Monroe Lambert, 78, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 13, 1927, in Jennings, he was the second of six sons born to Ida and Hubert Lambert. He graduated from Kinder High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Navy, serving as a Seabee on Eniwetok Island. He was proud to have served on board the battleship USS Texas. After his discharge, he returned to Kinder, where he was employed as the garage foreman at Allen Motor Co. He married Carolyn Reeves of Oberlin in 1950. In 1951 they moved to Kenner, where he was employed by United Gas Pipeline Co. The birth of their two children was followed by his transfer to the United Gas corporate fleet garage in Shreveport in 1960. In 1966, he accepted a promotion and transfer to Carthage, Texas, where he maintained gas pipeline compressor stations over a very wide region of Texas. James and his family were active citizens of Carthage. He was also a much-loved Little League coach and manager from 1968 to 1970. After the purchase of United Gas Corp. by Pennzoil, James was selected as one of only six men to oversee the beginning of Pennzoil’s offshore gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico in 1971. Pennzoil assembled this group of Texas oilmen in Lafayette to begin the project. While supervising two blocks in East Cameron and Eugene Island areas, gas production on one of his platforms set a world record for total volume. James and his family were members of Lafayette’s First Baptist Church. He retired from Pennzoil in 1986. Never one to be idle, James later was employed by the city of Lafayette, from 1987 to 1993. After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease, James succumbed at Vermillion Health Care Center near Nunez. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn; one daughter, Cynthia Boudreaux and husband Danny of Duson; one son, James Lambert and wife Laurel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Philip Boudreaux of Knoxville, Tenn., and Craig Boudreaux of Duson; four brothers and their wives, Don and Dolly, Roy and Doris, Bill and Phyllis, and Neal and Peggy; one sisterin-law, Ann Lambert; and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his brother, Norris. James was a loving husband and father and a man who always sought ways to assist neighbors and friends. His steadfast integrity will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 31, in First Baptist Church of Lafayette. Steve Horn will officiate. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Acadiana or to Hospice of Acadiana. LANDRY, Lula Jane Gillette LCAP 09/17/2006 Lula Jane Gillette Landry, 72, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, in her residence. She was born on Aug. 15, 1934, in Jennings to Joseph Gillet and Olive LeJeune Gillet. She moved to Lake Charles in 1940 and was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Clyde R. Landry of Lake Charles; one son, Delton “Snook” Landry Sr. and wife Debbie of Topsy; three daughters, Josselin “Tootie” Landry of Lake Charles, Thelma “Lee” Furay and husband Jerry of Hathaway and Kathleen “Kathy” Moore and husband Keith of Branson, Mo.; one sister, Opal Helen Richard of Lake Charles; 10 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; six great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Earl R. Gillette Sr. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, in Hixson Funeral Home. LAPOINT, Audrey Bergeaux LCAP 09/07/2006 JENNINGS — Audrey Marie Bergeaux Lapoint, 57, passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, in Jeff Davis Living Center, where she was for 20 days. She was born November 19, 1948, to Alfred (Fred) Bergeaux and Burcy Marie Miller from Petit Mamou. She went to school in Iota and Sulphur and attended Lamar University. She traveled and worked as a personal care giver and was Catholic. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred ‘‘Fred’’ Bergeaux and brother, Robert Lee ‘‘T-Boy’’ Bergeaux. Survivors include her daughter, Christine Gilfour; son, Michael Lapoint from Westlake; three grandchildren, Magan and Lauren Adams and Glen Michael Lapoint; her mother, Mrs. Burcy Bergeaux of Petit Mamou; brothers, Allen ‘‘Cowboy’’ Bergeaux and Johnny Bergeaux, both of Petit Mamou; sisters, Mrs. Ervin (Della) Lantz, Mrs. Bud (Eva) Breaux, both of Sulphur, Mrs. Bud (Jeanette) Hearod, Mrs. Joe (Shirley) Granger and Mrs. Belin (Judy) Landry Sr., all of Petit Mamou. LAUGHLIN, James “Sonny” LCAP 09/24/2006 JENNINGS — James Weston “Sonny” Laughlin, 76, died at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in a local hospital. Mr. Laughlin was born May 5, 1930, in Eunice and was raised in the Eunice-Elton area. He graduated from Elton High School. He resided in southwest Louisiana for all his life. He served his country for many years in the National Guard. He retired as a banker after 41 years of employment with Calcasieu Marine National Bank. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings, the Knights of Columbus and the Cursillo movement. He enjoyed camping, hunting and especially fishing. He is survived by his wife, Marion Laughlin of Jennings; daughters, Troy Ann Fuselier and husband Huey of Kinder and Cathy Martin and husband Tim of Lake Charles; son, Jody Laughlin and wife Tina of Sulphur; sisters, Merle Spinks of Lake Charles and Lorraine Richard of Jennings; grandchildren, Courtney F. He retired from Superior Oil Co. in 1984 with 35 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, and he served in the Navy in World War II. He was born and raised in the New Orleans area before coming to live in Welsh. Mr. Lorio was an Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Lorio of Welsh; one daughter, Christina Lorio of Welsh; one son, August Santo Lorio II of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Kirsten and Bradley Verberne, both of Welsh.
