Visitation for Brother Jack was Friday, Sept. 8 at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur and the celebration of Brother Jack’s life will continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday the 9th at the First Baptist Church at Lake Arthur, services will begin at 2 p.m. Brother Jack will be laid to rest at the Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Arthur. Brother Jack was born on April 8, 1925 in Crowley and passed away to his heavenly home at 3:35 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at Christus Saint Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles. Brother Jack spent three years in the Navy aboard the U. S. S. Nashville serving in the South Pacific. It was during that time in the Navy that Brother Jack felt and answered the call of God to preach. Upon discharge from the Navy he attended the Lake Arthur Camp meetings where he met Miss Joy Durapau and soon there after Jack asked her hand in marriage, they were married on June 3, 1947. Jack and Joy then attended and graduated from Clark Memorial College in Newton, Miss. and La. College in Pineville, La. It was in their senior year at La. College that Pineville First Baptist Church asked him to pastor the Pelican Drive Mission in Pineville, La. Thus began Brother Jack’s 51 years of pastoring and serving the churches in Central, Southeast and Southwest Louisiana. Brother Jack was an avid sports fan especially of L.S.U., New Orleans Saints, South Cameron High School and the Atlanta Braves Baseball team. Brother Jack was preceded in death by his 46-year-old daughter, Danya Tanner Banks who passed away in a fatal plane crash just a year ago. Brother Jack leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 59 years Joy Durapau Tanner. He is also survived by a son and his wife, David and Donna Tanner of Westlake; a grandson, V.J. and his wife, Stephannie Tanner, another grandson, Patrick Banks of Atlanta Beach, N.C. Jack was also blessed with two greatgrandchildren. Brother Jack leaves a sister, Elaine Riggs of Crowley, La. He is also survived by a special “daughter” Stacy and her husband Kevin Armstrong and a son-in-law of 25 years Mark Banks and wife, Linda Banks of North Carolina. Having ministered, lived in and taken part in sports activities and social events in Cameron Parish for more than 20 years, Brother Jack claims kinship to all those wonderful people. Officiating at the celebration for the life of Brother Jack will be Dr. David Savage, the Rev. Ernest Walker and the Rev. Claude Fontenot. Larry and Harriette Dyson will be leading the music program. Pallbearers will be V.J. Tanner, Patrick Banks, Lee Nunez, Douglas “Mac” Haynie, Kevin J. Armstrong, Raphiel Heard. Honorary pallbearers are Allan Hartwell, Ernest Taber, Jackie Stagg, Bill McDonald, Bob McDonald, Columbus Hanks, Bobby Chapman, Rene’ Broussard, Raymond Hanks, Sono Savoie and Dick Thornton. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 29, in Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. TEZINO, Bernadine LCAP 05/05/2006 Bernadine Tezino, 61, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, in her residence. Her funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in Emmanuel Worship Center of Jennings. The Rev. Roy Harmon will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel. Visitation is from 10 a.m. Saturday in the church. She was a lifelong resident of Jennings. She was a member of Emmanuel Worship Center. Survivors include four daughters, Cynthia Arceneaux and Sharon Lyons, both of Jennings, Lisa Gant of Fredricksburgh, Va., and Cora Marie Winters of Crowley; one son, Elijah Mayfield III of Seattle; one brother, Frank Tezino of Houston; three sisters, Anna Robinson and Alice Claire Jones, both of Jennings, and Blanche Hightower of Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. LCAP 08/20/2006 JENNINGS — The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, in Matthews and Son Funeral Home for Ernest Joseph Thibodeaux, 80, who died at 8:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rev. Jude Brunnert, M.S., will officiate. Ernest J. Thibodeaux, known as “Calcasieu Ernest,” was born on Oct. 9, 1925, in Mermentau to Ida Hickman Thibodeaux and Clobule Thibodeaux. Today a great and wonderful man has been taken from us. A man that loved life and lived it to its fullest. At the age of 10 years old he got his first guitar and played professionally at the age of 13 with Will Kegley and the Lake Charles Playboys. He was the last member of the Pine Grove Boys, which was formed in 1948. He invited Nathan Abshire in 1948 to join with Will Kegley and Will’s sister Oziet Kegley to make the band called the Pine Grove Boys. After playing with four members until 1949, they took on Atlas Fruge and Jim Baker. They became one of the most popular French bands in Louisiana. The band worked six and sometimes seven nights a week between the Crystal Grill and Broken Mirror in Lake Charles. On May 23, 1949, Ernest and Nathan Abshire recorded “Pinegrove Blues” and “The Kaplan Waltz.” Ernest did the answering to Nathan in “Pinegrove Blues.” He traveled with his band and played in Winnie, Beaumont and Orange, Texas, until the mid-1950s. Some of the recordings he did with Nathan Abshire were “The Belizaire Waltz,” “Choupique Two-Step,” “Big Mamou,” “New Orleans Waltz” and “Marsh Waltz.” Some of the locations he played were the Avalon Club in Basile; Pine Grove Club in Evangeline; The Bucket of Blood in Nederland, Texas; Pe-Te’s Bar-B-Que in Houston; and Fred Bailey’s in Bridge City, Texas. He has played with bands including Iry LeJeune and the Lacassine Playboys, August Broussard and the Calcasieu Playboys and Don Thibodeaux and the Cajun Fever. On May 25, 1996, he was inducted into the Wall of Fame at the World Famous Fred’s Lounge in Mamou. Ernest Thibodeaux played music until the age of 75. He was a member of the Cajun French Music Association. Survivors include two sons, Ernest Roy Thibodeaux of Friendsville, Tenn., and Ray Mitchell Thibodeaux and wife, Joni, of Beaumont, Texas; three daughters, Betty Jean Fortier and husband, Michael, of Kingwood, Texas, Brenda Sue Mingus and husband, Gary, of Friendsville and Ramona Foytlin of Rayne; his wife, Willie Mae Thibodeaux of DeRidder; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Otis J. “Pappy” Thibodeaux. Visitation is 4:30-10 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Monday in the funeral home THOMAS, Carl LCAP 04/16/2006 Carl Thomas, 40, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006. He was a native of Lake Charles. He attended Lacassine High School and graduated from Lake Charles High School. He lived in New Orleans for many years, where he served in hotel management prior to moving to San Diego one year ago. He will be missed by many who knew him. Survivors include his parents, Elton and Glenda Lanette Thomas of Iowa, La.; one daughter, Brianne “Bree” Thomas of Lake Charles; three sisters, Farlesher Thomas (Jimmy) Murphy and Florina and Florence Thomas, all of Lake Charles; three brothers, Gregory P. (Angela) Lanette and Zachary Thomas, both of Lake Charles, and Reginald Thomas of Iowa; four nephews, Gregory P. Lanette Jr., Mitchell “Mitch” Richard, Kelen Murphy and Waylon Thomas; five nieces, Alexis Wilson, Chanel Lanette, Aeriel Joubert, Samantha Lanette and Bralyn Thomas; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. His funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday, April 17, in King’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Alfred King will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday. LCAP 06/03/2006 JENNINGS — The infant Brayden Michael Timmons died Friday, June 2, 2006, in a local hospital. TODD, Eugene Charles LCAP 03/21/2006 WELSH — Eugene Charles Todd, 80, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, in a local hospital. Mr. Todd was born and raised in Welsh, Jefferson Davis Parish. He attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) 1942-43. He left school in 1943 to take over the family’s rice and soybean farm. He retired from farming in 1989. Hundreds of children enjoyed visiting the Todd Family Farm on field trips. He had served on the Jeff Davis Electric Cooperative board since 1986. He joined Cajun Electric’s Board in 1987. Mr. Todd also served as a board member for John Deere Mutual Warehouse, The American Rice Growers Cooperative and Thornwell Warehouse Cooperative. He was an elder of First Presbyterian church of Welsh. He belonged to Blue Lodge 232 in Welsh, Chapter and Commandry. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner of Habibi Temple. Survivors include Shirley Todd, his wife of 57 years; one son, Kyle Todd and wife Janet of Beaumont, Texas; one daughter, Molly Beard and husband Howard of Lake Charles; and four grandchildren, Travis, Krystle, Brady and Brandon. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Thomas Robert Todd. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Welsh. The Rev. Tom Reighney will officiate. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in the China Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Funeral home visitation will be 3-9:30 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Trahan died on Sunday, Dec. 24, in Pineville, La. He was a native of Port Neches, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jennings, where he was also a deacon. He was an Air Force veteran and a former school teacher and supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Roberts Trahan of Elton, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Evans and her spouse, Jimmy of Jackson, Miss., and Christy Suzanne Warren and her spouse, Wade of Pineville, La.; sisters, Bobbie Bridwell and Lois Faulk, both of Elton, La.; one brother, Charles Trahan of Elton; and four grandchildren. TRAHAN, Wilbert Lee LCAP 01/31/06 WELSH — Wilbert Lee Trahan, 58, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in a Lake Charles hospital. He was a lifetime resident of Welsh and was of Catholic faith. He was a supply boat engineer for Tide Water Marine. Survivors include his mother, Grace Trahan of Lake Arthur; wife, Shirley Trahan of Welsh; son, Jerome Trahan of Lake Charles; one daughter, Katherine Puentese of Conroe, Texas; three stepsons, Tony Trahan of Austell, Ga., Shannon Trahan of Cutoff and Paul Trahan of Welsh; two stepdaughters, Regina Asbhire and Carla Trahan, both of Welsh; two sisters, Judy Moe and her husband, Leonard, and Mona Landry and her husband, Thomas, both of Lake Arthur; and nine grandchildren. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel of Welsh. Deacon Henchee will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. TREME, Lee Roy LCAP 05/31/2006 ELTON — The funeral for Lee Roy Treme, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006, in Ardoin Funeral Home. The Rev. Marshall Boulet will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Mr. Treme passed away Monday, May 29, in Moss Bluff. He was a native of Elton, a resident of Kinder and a 50-year member of the American Legion in Elton. He served in the Army in the Korean War. Visitation is 5-10 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Thursday.
