Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, in Mount Triumph Baptist Church of Jennings. The Rev. Carl Fontenot will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel. Visitation is from 8 a.m. Saturday in the church. She was born in Lafayette and was a longtime resident of Jennings. She was a member of Mount Triumph Baptist Church. She was owner of Golden Ribs Restaurant in Crowley for many years. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Ruby Guilbeau Bernard, and two sisters, Joan Rubin and Betty Bernard, all of Jennings, and two brothers, Claude Bernard of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Randy Benard of Jennings. Photo with article WALKER, Elmer LCAP 03/27/2006 WELSH — Elmer Walker, 90, passed away March 26, 2006, at a local care center. He was a native of Roanoke and resided in Welsh. Elmer was a U.S. Army and World War II veteran. He was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as fire chief in Welsh and served on the Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. He was a Welsh alderman in 1955 and 1956 and worked for Cash and Carry as a meat cutter. He was also a metal worker and specialized in gutters. After his retirement, his hobby was woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Walker of Welsh; two daughters, Delores Derouen of Welsh and Ruth Mayson of Richmond, Texas; two stepdaughters, Shirley Trahan and Annette Chaisson, both of Welsh; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. His funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Hixson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be today, March 27 from 3-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service time. Born in Lake Charles, she lived in Houston for a number of years before moving back to Welsh. She was a graduate of Welsh High School and attended Texas Southern University in Houston. She was a music major and a musician for several area churches for many years. Survivors include her mother, Joyce Lee Rosette; three sisters, Anna Washington, Myra Harmon and Rosanna Achane, all of Welsh; four brothers, Kelvin, Johnny Walker and Louis Jenkins, all of Welsh, and Benjamin Rosette of Austin, Texas; and a host of family and friends. WALKER, Lurlene H. LCAP 02/06/2006 WELSH — Lurlene H. Walker died at 3:24 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006. She was a native and lifelong resident of Welsh and graduated from Welsh High School. She retired from her brother-in-law and sister’s business, Lloyd Diedrich Insurance Agency, after more than 30 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, where she volunteered for many, many years for fundraisers and activities. She was member of the Catholic Daughters for more than 50 years. Lur loved to cook for family and friends and passed on that love to her son, Mike. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and sister to her family and will be remembered with such fond memories. Survivors include two children and their spouses, Brenda W. Daniel and husband Shelton of Welsh and Mike Walker and wife Dian of Jennings; four grandchildren and their spouses, Wayne and Lori Daniel of Garland, Texas, Paul and Melissa Daniel and Slade J. Walker, all of Welsh, and Joe and Mary Daniel of Plano, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Austin Daniel of Garland and Sheila and Beau Daniel of Welsh; three stepgrandchildren, Mack Lachaussee, Reagan Lachaussee and Ryan Lachaussee of Jennings; one sister, Margie H. LCAP 04/19/2006 Patsy Ruth Savoie Walker, 94, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Walker was was born to Mark and Celestine (Davis) Savoie on June 1, 1911, in Lacassine. She was married to the late E.H. “Honey” Walker. Mrs. Walker was the proprietor of Walker’s Hall where many games, dances, lectures and plays were held. She was well-known throughout the community of Lake Charles for her inspiration to youth and work in the community. In her later years she was known to many as the “Enterprise Boulevard Angel” always walking the surrounding area to check on her neighbors and deliver newspapers to those who were no longer able to get around. Mrs. Walker joined Reeves C.M.E. Temple in February 1929 under the ministry of the Rev. I.H. Jones and remained a faithful member until her death. She was active for many years as a choir member, president of Missionary Circle No. 2, president of the Epworth League, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Stewardess Board. She was also active in many civic and social activities. In 1941, Mrs. Walker became hostess at the L.C. Air Force Base until the base closed in 1945. She was then employed by the Lake Charles Recreation Department, where she worked for 38 years. At that time, Black schools did not have gymnasiums and she contacted the area schools and offered the use of the recreation center for concerts, coronations, balls and kiddie karnivals for kindergarten students. She organized the first Black ceramic classes and taught the culture for more than 20 years. She also organized Senior Citizen programs and presented Golden Age Certificates to members of Reeves Temple. In 1949, Mrs. Walker became a Charter member of the Daughter of Isis, Alkadr CP No. 124, served as Commandress and was always active and supportive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Ovey, Walter, Julius and Oscar Lafanette; four sisters, Victoria Tolivier, Nellie Williams, MayBelle Johnson and Hazel Holiday; and one great-grandchild, Alayna M. Boseman. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Shirley W. January of Lake Charles; four grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in Reeves C.M.E. Temple. The Rev. Dr. Leon Williams will officiate. Mrs. Webster was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Welsh to Elford Guillory and Fenna Guillory. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters, a choir member for many years, a lector, a Eucharistic minister and Sacristan, all at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she was a friend to all who knew her. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Hewitt “Buddy” Webster of Welsh; one son, Wayne Webster and wife Pam of Welsh; two daughters, Debbie Derouen and husband John Cordell of Lake Charles and Mary Blackwell and husband Paul of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and a host of family and friends. She was a faithful member and active in mission and other auxiliary departments. Jr. LCAP 03/09/2006 John W. Wilson Jr., 85, a resident of Lake Charles for 35 years, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, in his home. Mr. Wilson was born and raised in Roanoke, where he farmed until 1970. In 1970, he and his family moved to Lake Charles, where he continued to farm and raise cattle until he retired. Mr. Wilson served our country during World War II for six years with the Marines 7th Defense Battalion. After the war ended, Mr. Wilson returned home and attended McNeese State University, USL and LSU in Baton Rouge. He was a member of University United Methodist Church, VFW Post 2130 and American Legion Post 1. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Lou McMichael Wilson of Lake; two children, Nanette W. Chambers and husband Chris Chambers and Ned K. Wilson and wife Crystal M. Wilson, all of Lake Charles; and six grandchildren, Sarah and Rachael Chambers, Blake Mudd, Morgan Wilson, Logan Wilson and Chance Wilson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and lots and lots of cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Mary Thomas Wilson; his three brothers, David Wilson of Jennings, Thomas Wilson, who was killed during World War II, and John M.
