She was involved in Friends Supporting Friends and Cajun Helpers. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by all. She loved to cook and was an avid Bingo player. Lula was born in Gueydan, La to the late Joseph and Carmalite Hebert Simon in the fall of 1911. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She was honored with the title of Mother of the Year. Lula was very devoted to the Lord and spreading his word and prayer to anyone in need. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and a charter member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was also the head chairwoman of food and cake and pie sales for the church bazaar. Lula was well known for the delicious divinity candy she would make for her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Leaving behind to cherish her memory is her beloved son, Leroy LaPoint and his wife Joetta of Lake Arthur; and her 14 beautiful grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren with one on the way, and five great great grandchildren. Mrs. LeBlanc died at 12:10 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 at her daughter's residence in Henderson, LA. Mrs. LeBlanc was a native of Lyons Point in Acadia Parish. She was born on May 30, 1915. She was a resident of Lake Arthur since 1926 when her father sold his farm due to the first recession. She married Ellis LeBlanc in 1934 and began her family. Mr. LeBlanc, who was an employee of Magnolia Oil, traveled to different sights working to raise their children. Mrs. LeBlanc began working at Lacour's Department Store as a clerk in 1975 when Mr. LeBlanc passed away. Mrs. LeBlanc raised four children; Leroy L. LeBlanc of Lake Charles, Dorothy L. Wiltz of Henderson, the late Danny LeBlanc and the late Ricky W. LeBlanc. She is also survived by one sister, Beatrice Comeaux of Lake Arthur; 13 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 17 great great grandchildren. Through her life she experienced many remarkable people and things. According to her, the most remarkable people were her family. She lived a very healthy life. Her secret to a long and healthy life was raising her family, her love for cooking, Cajun French dancing and simply living life to its fullest. In addition she enjoyed watching the Altanta Braves baseball games, hand embroidering, sewing and painting. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcial and Azelia Fruge Trahan; her first husband, Ellis LeBlanc; her second husband, Alcee Dugas; two sons, Martial "Danny" LeBlanc and Richard Wayne LeBlanc; one granddaughter, Tammy M. She was called to heaven Thursday, November 13th, 2008 from the Jennings American Legion Hospital. Mrs. LeBleu was born in Thornwell, La. to Jedeon Leonce and Julia Speeg Doiron. She will be laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery following her services. Following graduation from Lake Arthur High School in 1941, as Valedictorian at age 16, Margaret attended SLI in Lafayette, La. There she met and married Gordon Van Neste. During World War II, she lived with Gordon's parents in DeRidder, La. and worked at Camp Polk while Gordon served in Europe. After Gordon's death in 1947, she and their infant son returned to her home in Thornwell. In 1952, they moved to Jennings, where she worked until she married Jack LeBleu in 1965. In this marriage, she inherited twin daughters. During the next years, Margaret was a charter member of the "Pink Ladies" at the hospital and she and Jack spent time traveling. After Jack's death in 1995, Margaret continued to enjoy a wide circle of friends, family, church, and community. She distinguished herself by attending 51 consecutive family reunions held annually at Chicot State Park. Her wit and wisdom will be greatly missed. Survivors include her son, Glenn Charles Van Neste and wife Rita of Marquette, Michigan; two daughters, Sharon LeBleu Monlezun and husband, Dr. Charles of Lake Charles, La. and Sheila LeBleu Allen and husband Tommy of Meeker, Colorado; one brother, Alvin Doiron and wife Pearl of Sulphur, La.; one sister, Ida Mae Doiron Watkins of Welsh, La.; a sister-in-law, Bernice Doiron Arceneaux also of Welsh, La.; six grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Hodgins, Julia and Kurt Allen, Cherie Monlezun, and Travis Van Neste; and four great grandchildren, Breanna and Bobby Hodgins, Colin Van Neste, and Sage Allen.
