Laurise V. BECK, 93, of Port Neches, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Beck was born August 16, 1916, in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to Eloise and Nick Vencent. Funeral service for Mrs. Beck were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Broussard’s in Nederland with Dr. David Higgs officiating. Interment followed at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends was held Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. After graduating from Lake Arthur High in 1934, she enrolled in Chenier Business College, graduating with an Associates Degree in 1954. She lived in Nederland for seventy five years, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nederland for sixty five years, and was employed by Nederland State Bank for fifteen years. Preceding her in death were her husband of fifty two years, J.E. Beck; four sisters and one brother. Mrs. Beck is survived by three children, Evelyn Billinger of Nederland, Beverly Ann Block of Port Neches and Jerry E. Beck and his wife Shirley of Port Neches; sister, Marjorie Lois “Punkie” Ellender and her husband Henry of Sulphur, Louisiana; brother, Norbert P. Henry BERTRAND, Sr., age 78, of Glen Carbon, formerly of O’Fallon, Ill., born February 26, 1931 in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, died February 9, 2010 at his daughter’s home. Henry attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was vice president of the former Service Oil Company in Belleville, retiring in 1980. He was an avid bowler, a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan, and former member of Knights of Columbus Council 4239. Most importantly, he was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, nee Henard, Bertrand on August 31, 1976; parents Joseph and Amy, nee Guidry, Bertrand, and seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Boudreaux was a native of Jennings and former resident of Lake Arthur and member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. He graduated from Lake Arthur High School Class of 1985 and attended McNeese College. Mr. Boudreaux was a member of the National Guard who served during Desert Storm. He was a carpenter by trade and his hobbies included photography, woodworking, electronics, boating, camping, water skiing and time spent with his family. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Arthur and was a retired truck driver for the oil and gas industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Mr. Broussard was the Patio and Safety Patrol at the Jeff Davis Living Center. Mr. Broussard is survived by two daughters; Susan B. Prejean and husband Shawn, Sr. of Jennings and April B. Mr. Broussard was called to his Heavenly Father early Thursday morning from the Gueydan Memorial Guest House. Visitation was held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home on Friday, February 26th from 9:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and resumed on Saturday, February 27th at 8:00 a.m. until the time of his services. A rosary was recited by Father Vidrine on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Broussard was laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Mildred Simon Broussard, in the Gueydan Cemetery. Raoul was a native of Kaplan and resident of Gueydan. He farmed rice and raised cattle until retiring at age 72. Raoul loved to hunt and raise cattle. Raoul leaves a long legacy behind him with six children, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Survivors include his sister, Joyce Duhon of Gueydan; Shannon Castille and husband Richard of Lewisburg, Cresward and wife Helen of Cow Island, Weldon and friend Elaine Landry of Lydia, Charlyn and husband Wilson "Boogie" LeJeune, Jr. of Sweetlake, Reggie and wife Susan of Gueydan, and Peter and wife Martha of Baytown, TX. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Brian Taylor Celebrant. Known as “Dr. Feelgood” to all who knew him, he was a slot tech at Coushatta Casino Resort. At an early age Doc had a love for music. Growing up in his parents grocery store he got to meet and become friends with Nathan Abshire, Dewey Balfa, Robert Bertrand, Canray Fontenot, Boc Sec Ardoin just to name a few. For 21 plus years he has been partners with Todd Ortego on The Swamp N Roll Radio Show which has been part of the KBON family as well as The Swamp N Roll TV show on KDCG Ch 22 out of Opelousas. Since 1990 Doc has been writing a column for The Basile Weekly, and for a period for The Eunice News, called Bustin’ Loose. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Burge of Basile; his mother, Jane Richard of Basile; his son, Brian Burge and wife, Kelly of Carencro; his daughter, Tracy LaBauve and husband, Tony of Basile; his two brothers, Eugene Burge, Jr. of Basile and Brent Burge of Eunice and his grandchildren, Nickolas, Maison, Alyssa, Morgan and Grant. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Burge, Sr. Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile until time of services. Posted January 31st, 2010 BASILE -- Services for radio and TV personality Joe BURGE ( Dr. Feel Good) will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Basile. Burge, 54, died of a heart attack after a weightlifting workout at his home on Saturday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Sunday at at Ardoin's, Basile, and continues at 8 a.m. Monday. Burge was co-host, with Todd Ortego, of Swamp & Roll radio and television shows, which were unscripted broadcasts highlighting Acadiana events and musicians. The TV show is aired on cable systems throughout the area and the radio show airs on KBON on Thursdays at 6 p.m. The pair started the show more than 20 years ago, with Burge signing off each with "Behave your damn self." Burge also wrote a weekly column for the Basile Weekly and was a slot technician at the Kinder Coushatta Casino. ----------------------------------------------------------------
