He is the son of Valerien and Angeline (Mouton) Martin, both of whom are natives of Louisiana. His father is a planter, living in St. Martin parish. The subject of this sketch is one of a family of seven children; Auguste, Edmond, Emile, Alfred, Elodie, Ismine and Angele. Sidney Martin has been engaged in planting since starting in business for himself. He was married in 1875 to Miss Zilia Mouton, a native of Louisiana, born in 1857, and daughter of General Mouton. To this union have been born five children, three sons and two daughters: Sosthene, Luc, Henry, Bertha, and Lucie. Mr. Martin has a good plantation of two hundred acres of land, with ninety acres under cultivation, on which he raises principally corn, cotton and sweet potatoes. The place is well improved, and has on it a fine orchard. Mr. Martin is a systematic, progressive planter, and is considered one of the most successful business men in his neighborhood. He gives special attention to breeding a superior grade of stock, and now has on his plantation some fine specimens. Both he and wife are members of the Catholic church.
