URSIN PREJEAN, M.D., CARENCRO.--Ursin Prejean, M.D., was born in St. Landry
parish, Louisiana, September 27, 1855.  He is the son of Ursin T. Prejean, a
native of St. Landry parish.  Ursin T. was a successful planter of St. Landry
parish.  He served during the Civil War in the Eighteenth Louisiana Infantry,
Confederate army, and was in many of the active campaigns.  He died at the age
of fifty-five years.

The subject of this sketch is the oldest of a family of seven children.  He
received his education in the common schools, and at St. Charles College,
Grand Coteau.  At the age of twenty years he began the study of medicine under
the direction of Dr. Moss, of St. Landry parish.  In 1874 he matriculated in
the medical department of the now Tulane University, graduating in 1877.  He
then began practice in St. Landry parish, where he was located until 1880,
when he removed to Carencro, and has since here resided.  His practice is
large and extends over a considerable area of Lafayette and St. Landry
parishes.  The Doctor has been, though he is not at present, a member of the
Attakapas Medical Association. He was married, in 1877, to Miss Breaux, of
Lafayette parish.  Mrs. Prejean died, and the Doctor afterward married Miss
Maria Matthieu.
