The Lafayette Advertiser, Vermilionville, Lafayette Parish, LA, September 6, 1873
HOMICIDE-Last Monday, Onesime Melancon voluntarily surrendered himself to the
authorities stating that he had been compelled, in self defense, the day
previous, to kill one, Jules D. Broussard. He was committed to wait a judicial
investigation, which was progressing yesterday evening at the time of going to
press.

Additional Comments:
ADDITIONAL NOTES: The article was printed on a Saturday, Sept 6 1873. Onesime
would have turned himself in the previous Monday [Sept 1 1873] and murdered
Jules D. Broussard the previous day [Aug 31 1873].
