(St. Martinsville [i.e.St. Martinville]La.) 1886-1948, November 12, 1904, Image 4 Olivier Flerty was seriously hurt last Sunday evening at the race track at Breaux Bridge. While the first race was running Mr. Derneval Roy's horse took the lead at the second turn and won the race, Flerty was a better on the Roy horse, and in his excitement forgot, or paid no attention to the third hose (sic) that was running about an acre behind the others, and ran upon the track just in time to come in collison (sic) with the last racer; he was struck on the head, and on the right breast and was very painfully injured. He was taken to his sister's home, Mrs. Numa Landry where he received medical attention. -Died Tuesday morning at nine o'clock in Breaux Bridge, Olivier Fleurty, at the age of 24 years 10 months and 4 days. The remains were brought to St. Martinville by the morning train and the funeral took place from the Catholic Church immediately after the arrival of the train. Fleurty was unmarried and leave (sic) a mother and several brothers and sisters to mourn his death.
