Lafayette, La., Jan. 23. - Jerome Mouton, well-known lawyer and citizen, died at his home here last night of pneumonia, following influenza contracted only a week ago. Mr. Mouton, who was 42 years old, was a son of the late Charles Homer Mouton, himself a well-known lawyer of this section and at one time lieutenant governor of the state. His mother was the laste Mrs. Emerite Oliver Mouton. He was a younger brother of Judge Arthur C. Mouton, with whom he was associated as a law partner in the firm of Mouton; Mouton & Deballion, and of Judge Julian Mouton of the Circuit Court of Appeals. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Lizzie Bailey and two children, besides several other brothers and sisters and a large family connection throughout Southwest Louisiana. His younger brother, Frank P. Mouton of New Iberia and sister, Mrs. Dr. Arthur Reed of Angleton, Texas, are here. He was a graduate of the Louisiana State University, class of 1897, and was a member of its board of supervisors. He took his law course at Tulane. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, and was for a time editor of the Lafayette Gazette, following the death of his brother, Homer. He was local attorney of the Southern Pacific railway, and formerly city attorney of Lafayette, and was representative in the State Legislature for the parish of Lafayette during Governor Hall's administration. He was a member and officer of the local lodge of Elks, and was a charter member and attorney for the local camp of Woodmen of the World. Interment took place this afternoon.
