Velton Paul Guidry 
Died 27 May 2011; age 81

Velton Paul Guidry, was the president of the La Societe des Cajuns Society and 
the editor of the Societe quarterly journal Les Memoires de Bayou Lafourche for 
several years.  He departed this life on May 27, 2011 at the age of 81 having 
lived his entire life in Galliano.

Velton was very passionate about genealogy and would assist anyone researching 
their family lineage.  I was always fascinated with the stories that Velton 
would tell me about our Schouest/Chouest lineage.  I thoroughly enjoyed sitting 
back and soaking up the history of our ancestors.  I recall one trip to the 
Thibodaux Courthouse with Bob Looper and Velton Guidry.  We were on a mission to 
locate some information on my Ledet lineage.  Bob and I went one direction and 
Velton another direction.  Much to my surprise Velton came into the room 
carrying this huge book that had some of the information I was looking for.  
Velton was drawn to that book like a magnet as though he knew exactly what I was 
looking for.  All you had to do is mention genealogy or going to a cemetery to 
do a survey and Velton was always willing to go and assist.  Velton, Bob and I 
ventured into several cemeteries where we would document the burials for our 
website.
