J. R. VERRET, LOUISA.--J. R. Verret was born in Lafourche parish, March 28,
1855.  He is the son of J. R. and Charlotte (Romagosa) Verret, the former a
native of Terrebonne and the latter of Lafourche parish.

The subject of this sketch received his education in Houma, where his parents
removed when he was quite young.  He began life as a deputy in the clerk's
office at Houma, where he remained for about two years.  He then engaged in a
grocery business, and in this he continued until 1877, after which time he was
appointed registration clerk, and held this office for two months, at the end
of which time he removed to St. Mary parish, February, 1879, where he took
charge and managed the plantation store of Mrs. E. D. Burguieres.  In March,
1883, he was married to Miss Elodie Bodin, a native of Terrebonne parish, born
Februar
y 5, 1860.  She is the daughter of N. Bodin and Emma Bonvillain, both
natives of St. Mary parish.  Mr. and Mrs. Verret are the parents of four
children,  viz:  Louise Elodie,  Emma Cecile,  John Robert,  Mary Beatrice.
