The petition of Rachel LOVEL, widow of James DEHART, of the said parish. Would respectfully represent, that the said DEHART died in the parish on the 31 day of October last past (1841) leaving certain property moveable and immovable, formerly in community between your petitioner and the said James DEHART, her deceased husband. That of the legitimate marriage between your petitioner and the said deceased there is the following issue, to wit: Elizabeth Jane DEHART, aged about fifteen months. Your petitioner further represents, that she believes to be, by law, entitled to the natural tutorship of her minor child, and that it will be necessary to provide her with an under tutor and that it will also be necessary that an inventory of the property above mentioned, be taken. Wherefore your petitioner prays that she be admitted to take her oath as natural tutrix of her said minor child, that an under tutor be appointed to the said minor, and that an inventory be taken by order of your Honourable court, in the shortest delay. Let Mathurin BOURG and Absalom KEES be appointed experts to appraise the property mentioned and subject to appraisement Witness my hand this 7th day of February 1842. BARKER Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Lafourche Interior Know all men by these presents that on this day the seventh day of February eighteen hundred and forty two at ten o'clock in the forenoon, pursuant to a petition of Rachel LOVEL, widow of James DEHART deceased in said parish of Lafourche Interior on the last day of October eighteen hundred and forty one praying for an inventory of all the property real and personal rights and credits belonging to the said James DEHART or to the petitioner to the community formerly existing between them. Pursuant also to a decree of the court of probate of said parish Interior ___ the said petition on the seventh day of February eighteen hundred and forty two ordaining among other things that the said inventory should at this day and at this _____ be taken by me the subscribing parish judge of the said parish. I, James McAllister, Parish judge and ex officio Notary public of said parish Lafourche Interior assisted and accompanied by dec'd. survivors and _____ _Adam YORK, freeholders and good and competent witnesses, one twenty one years of age domiciled in said parish that to the last residence of the James DEHART where his widow mow resides situate in said parish on the right bank of Bayou Lafourche about forty eight miles below the town of Thibodaux. Where we found: 1st said Rachael DEHART, widow of said James DEHART acting not only in her own behalf but as natural tutrix for her child Elizabeth Jane DEHART aged about fifteen months, the offspring of the lawful marriage of said Rachael LOVEL and James DEHART. 2nd Benjamin BARKER, undertutor and qualified and sworn of said minors. The said Mrs. DEHART declaring that she reserves all of her separate individual rights and does not mean by signing and assisting at the same to commit herself nor to renounce nor to accept said community. And for the purpose of declaring the rights interests of all concerned, I the judge do now proceed in presence of the parties and the witnesses appraisers and bystanders a true and lawful inventory and appraisement to make of all the property belonging to the succession of said James DEHART or to his surviving wife said Rachael LOVEL or to the community between them as ___ as a diserfi__ of the rights and credits, papers, title, deeds and so forth. --- The inventory is made upon the declaration on or of Mrs. Rachael LOVEL widow DEHART who has sworn under oath the produce exhibit and indicate all the said property rights credits title, papers, etc. The appraisement of the property is made by Mathurin BOURG and Absalom KEES good and substance __ freeholders of said parish appointed as expert by me the judge and who before proceeding to the said inventory have taken and presented the following oath to wit: We Mathurin BOURG and Absalom KEES experts as appraiser appointed to value and appraised the property pointed out and designated as belonging to the succession of James DEHART, deceased, in said parish of Lafourche ___ ______ or to Rachel LOVEL, his surviving wife or to the community between them do solemnly swear that we will well and truly to the best of our knowledge, abilities and understanding appraise the said property at its just value so help us God. one east on the west side of the Mississippi containing one hundred and sixty 37/100 superficial acres being __ ___ tract now much improved on which the said widow DEHART now resides appraised at three hundred and fifty dollars Notes and accounts 1st a note against St___ Witherspoon for the sum of two hundred and five dollars not found and as more particular cannot be _____ 205.00 2nd A note against George MODURY for thirty six do and ninety cents not found 36.90 The amount of the appraisement of the personal property is ____ hundred and fifty five dollars eighty one cents and a fourth 255.81 1/4 The appraisement of lands is nine hundred and fifty dollars 950.00 The amount of notes is two hundred and forty one dollars ninety cents 241.90 Total is fifteen hundred and forty seven
