Lagreze, who resides above Thibodaux, is spending sometime in New Orleans. ===================== We regret to hear that Mr. Eugene Fleetwood, one of the deputies in Sheriff Beary's office, has been critically ill since last Sunday. ===================== Mr. Oleus Mire, the Baker man (or rather one of our former citizens, who now resides at Baker, La., was in Thibodaux last Saturday. ===================== Mr. E. Finkelstein was called to New Orleans this week on account of the serious illness of his mother. We trust that the lady will soon be restored to health. ===================== Mr. Edward Morris, road inspector from the second district, and Mr. Walter Parra, road inspector from the third district of this parish, were both in Thibodaux this week, being here, doubtless, to tell the grand jury why the roads are dry in dry weather and why they are muddy in rainy weather. ===================== A letter and also a dollar bill came to us yesterday morning from Mr. Thos. Legendre, at Beaumont, Texas. The dollar says nothing (merely looks at us smilingly) but the letter tells us that Mr. Legendre is "still doing fine here". We are glad to hear it and hope that he will continue to do well. ===================== Mrs. and Mrs. Jos. Wink had the pleasure last week of entertaining Mrs. Amelia Smith, Grand Guardian of the Woodmen of the State, and Mrs. W. F. Short and Mrs. C. W. Abbott, also ardent members of the Ladies Circle. After spending several days pleasantly here the three ladies returned to their homes in Algiers. ===================== We had a pleasant call last Monday from Mr. Argus J. Bourgeois, who resides a short distance below Lafourche Crossing. ===================== Mr. Bourgeois called to pay his subscription to the Comet. He is one of the farmers of the lower section of this parish who intend to be guided by the agricultural information that Mr. H. J. David can so capably convey. ===================== Mr. Henry J. Bergeron, who is one of the farmers residing near Lafourche Crossing, dropped in to see us last Saturday just after the farmers meeting at the Court House. Mr. Bergeron, who left us a dollar to settle for his Comet, seems to be very enthusiastic over the ideas and suggestions thrown out by Messrs. Perrin and David, the agricultural agents. He said that he would be glad to see a farmers organization formed in his part of the parish. ===================== Very Rev. Father A. M. Barbier and his guest, Rev. Father A. Simon, of New Orleans, had a little automobile experience last Thursday that they will not soon forget. Father Barbier was spinning along the Church Avenue or First street when his car began to lurch from one side of the road to the other. He tried to aright it, but the road was rather slippery and before he could get the machine steadied it had capsized with both occupants, who, fortunately were uninjured. The windshield through which Father Barbier crawled out of the car, was smashed and the top was considerably damaged. We congratulate the two estimable priests upon their narrow escape. The Lord was certainly with them. After the mishap it was discovered that two inner tubes, both on the same side, had bursted thus causing the car to turn over. ===================== Rev. Father J. J. Rousseau, pastor of St. Jules; church, at Belle Alliance, near Donaldsonville, after a brief visit in the city, will leave this morning for his home parish. Father Rousseau is one of the best-known priests in the diocese, having spent many years in the city, administering the affairs of the various churches. He was formerly assistant to the late Bishop Rouxel and was also connected with St. Michael's church. He was administrator at Thibodaux for several months, and was then appointed pastor of Belle Alliance, where he succeeded in building a modern church in that parish. N. O.
