Death of Mrs. Elphege Achee

    A very sorrowful event which occurred last Tuesday, the sixth of this month, 
had cast the population of the peaceful little village of Labadieville into 
mourning.

    Mrs. Fleurance Achee, born Barthet, died around 2 A.M. at the age of 39, 
after several days illness, much to the surprise of those around her; leaving a 
broken-hearted husband and five children, most of whom in early childhood would 
have well needed the care that only a mother could give.

    The funeral was held at 5 P.M. Although the weather was threatening, a large 
number of people were gathered ahead of  time at the home of the deceased to say 
their last and painful farewell to the dear beloved friend.  The procession, 
upon arriving at St. Philomena Church, was again made up on many people wishing 
to express their deep-felt sympathies to the family and of those who were unable 
to go to the home of Mr. Elphege Achee.

    The Greogorian funeral service, so imposing and solemn, was officiated by 
the Reverend Father Jobard, parish priest, assisted by Professor Prosper 
Davaine, always so zealous on such occasions, as was the singer and choir 
members composed of many students from the Immaculate Conception Convent, and 
accompanied by the organ.

    Her mortal remains were buried near her father and her children who preceded 
her in death.

    In her the Achee and Barthet families lost: ?A spouse, a beloved mother, a 
daughter, a sister and sister-in-law, whose memory as a parent a sincere devoted 
friend will always remain in the hearts and minds of all who knew her.

   God punishes those he loves.  He takes and he gives.  Blessed be his holy 
name!  Humbly and without complaining about his decisions, we must submit to 
sorrows such as she endured.
