McNamara b. 1876 d. 1940 John McNamara ........................... His family gave him devoted attention, striving in every way possible to restore him to health, but human help seemed to be unavailing. After being sick here for some time, he was sent to Hotel Dieu in New Orleans, with the hope that, possibly, the treatment there might be more successful, but finally, about a month ago, he decided to return and in the midst of his family awaited the end. The deceased was a native of Harrison County, New York, but 45 years ago he came to Lafourche to accept a position on the E. D. White plantation where his uncle, the late Col. Thos. Beary was the manager. Thus the deceased was employed as an overseer and assistant manager, a position he held for 26 years, or until after the death of his uncle. While on the White place, along in 1924, he ran for the office of Justice of the Peace of the first Ward, which is above Thibodaux on the right bank of Bayou Lafourche. He was elected and thus he acquired the title of Judge. About 35 years ago he married Miss Pauline Dansereau, on of the daughters of the late Dr. and Mrs. H. Dansereau. The couple seemed to live happily together, he always being full of praise for his wife and children, mutual love seeming to prevail in their home. He was specially proud of his son, who proved to be devoted to their parents, the six sons being James, who is a chemist employed by a large sugar refinery in the Dominican Republic, he visited his parents occasionally by airplane. Another son is Henry, who with his wife and children, reside in New Orleans. Thomas, Daniel and John Pat reside in Thibodaux. Edward is employed by the Port Sulphur Company in Port Sulphur, below New Orleans. The two daughters also survive, they being Mrs. E. Torres Jr. and Alida Rose. The funeral took place today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at a requiem mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church where a great number of relatives and friends had gathered to pay their respect to the deceased and his family. The mass was celebrated by the Rev. F. S. Lamendola, while the Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. M. Barbier and the Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. F. Ravoire, the latter being able to leave his sickbed, sat within the sanctuary. The Holy Name Society was present in a body. After the cememony the body was taken to St. Joseph cemetery for interment, the pall bearers being: Bob McKay, E. A. Torres Jr., Harold Dansereau, E. A. "Bud" Hoffmann, Philip Richard and Andrew Beary. ======================================= Thibodaux Comet; Feb. 8, 1940, Thursday Submitted by Cynthia F.
