Jan. 3, 1982 Marion Leroy Cook Dead at 67 Marion Leroy Cook, 67, a retired oilfield tool pusher for Atlantic-Pacific Marine Corp., died 10:50 a.m., Friday. A native of Wingate, Ind., Cook came to Louisiana as a motorman on a land rig called the Poule Deau. Eventually, Cook became part owner and supervisor for Gracie Hellums Drilling Corp. with which he remained for eight years after it was sold to the Atlantic- Pacific Marine Corp. While drilling wells for Union Oil of California in Timabalier Bay during the late 50's a rig which was one of a number he built set world record drilling times. Visitation will be 2-10 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home, resuming 8 a.m. Monday and continuing until funeral time. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Houma. Dixon Lewis Died Saturday Felix Dixon Lewis Jr., 67, long-time parish oil man, died Saturday morning at Tuland Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. A native of San Augustine, Texas, he was employed by the Texas Company (now Texaco, Inc.) Pipe Line Division for 37 years and retired in May of 1974. Educated in the San Augustine public school system he also attended Texas A&M University. He was one of the early members of the 122nd Observation Squadron of Louisiana (now the Louisiana National Guard) when it was organized in New Orleans prior to its entering the United States ArmyAir Corp in World War II. Lieutenant Lewis was assigned to the Pacific Theater of operation in World War II and participated in several campaigns, including the Japanese occupation. He was separated from the service with the rank of Major. Among his affiliations was membership in the Boston Club of New Orleans, the Houma-Terrebonne Carnival Club and the Sons of the Republic of Texas for which only 300 families are qualified. Prior to his illness he served as a Vestryman of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, and also as a foreman of a Terrebonne Parish Grand Jury. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home, resuming 9 a.m., Monday and continuing until funeral time. The funeral will be 10 a.m., Monday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Jan 3, 1982 Anne Collins Mackey Dead at 38 Anne Clark Collins Mackey, 38, a native of Houma and resident of Jackson, Miss., died Saturday after a long illness. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. S. Clark Collins of Houma. Educated at Terrebonne High School, Mrs. Mackey went on to receive her bachelor's degree in education from Newcomb College. During her college years, she also attended Nicholls State University. Upon graduating from Newcomb, she taught handicapped and exceptional children in one of the first special education programs within the New Orleans public school system. In 1972 she married Oscar Mackey, a Jackson, Miss., lawyer, and moved to Jackson. There she taught kindergarten and also concentrated on helping handicapped students within the regular school system. She also bore two children, a boy and a girl. "People were her hobby," said her mother. "She did a lot of things, horseback riding, camp work in North Carolina. She loved Houma and had a lot of good friends here." Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Mackey are incomplete as of press time. Fanguy, the only fatality in the crash, was a special operator with Halliburton Services and had started working for the company in August 1954 as a cement equipment operator. He was promoted to cementer, then to tool operator and finally to special operator. A spokesman for the company said that Fanguy's job "was no more dangerous than any other oil field job ... no more hassle than getting back, to and forth from the rigs."
