Feb. 8, 1982 Bruce Voisin The Falgout Canal Road Ferry has been temporarily closed after a 23-year-old Grand Caillou man was killed and another was injured when their pleasure boat snagged the ferry cable as the boat crossed the channel. Bruce Voisin of Route 6, Box 404, East Castleguard in Grand Caillou was thrown out of a 16 foot bass boat after it struck the cable stretched across the Houma Navigational Canal at about 5 p.m. Sunday. His body was recovered about six hours later by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office. Brown was a tool pusher in the oil field. He was a member of the Opelousas Masonic Lodge and past commander of the Opelousas Veterans of Foreign Wars. Feb. 28, 1982 Jody Lirette Jody Paul Lirette, a 10th grade student at South Terrebonne High School, died 8:21 p.m. Friday at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas after a lengthy illness. The 15 year old was a native and resident of Chauvin. His father, Samuel Joseph Lirette, told the Courier that young Lirette died after a year long battle with cancer of the liver. "He was a tough little guy," said Mr. Lirette, "but there really wasn't anything you could do. Cancer is a rough way to go." Visitation arrangements were pending at press time.
