Dr. Ayo, a native and resident of Raceland, was a staff member from 1935 to 1975 of St. Joseph Hospital in Thibodaux, now Thibodaux General Hospital, Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma, Lady of the Sea Hospital in Galliano and St. Anne General Hospital in Raceland. He was a staff member of Thibodaux General Hospital until his death. Dr. Ayo was also vice president and board member of Raceland Bank and Trust Company. He belonged to the Louisiana .State Medical Society, Lafourche Parish Medical Society, Third District Medical Society, American Medical Association and International College of Surgeons. He was a member of Southern Medical Society until 1976 and a Fellow of the International College in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1954. Dr. Ayo retired from obstetrics Nov. 1, 1974. On April 1, 1974 he delivered his last baby. He last performed surgery March 17, 1975. Dr. Ayo was educated at Raceland High School and Jefferson College. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1927 and a medical degree in 1928 from Tulane University. He interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans from 1928 to 1930 when he was chosen Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charity Hospital under the auspices of Louisiana State University. He was the first medical doctor to have this position at Charity and served in this capacity until 1932. He taught obstetrics and gynecology at LSU and Tulane medical schools where he was assistant head of the department under Dr. E.L. King. He was also in private practice in New Orleans until coming to Raceland in 1934 to take over his father's practice.
