He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Louise Gayles Davis; brothers, Lloyd Davis and Edward Robertson; and a sister, Orelia Robertson. =========================================================================== Sep 13, 1985 Former Lafourche Superintendant dies Robert Moncla, a former Lafourche Parish school superintendent, died Thursday at 11:30 p.m. Religious services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, with interment in St. John Episcopal Cemetery. Moncla, 91, was a native of Moncla, La., and a resident of Thibodaux for 70 years. He served as principal of St. Charles Elementary School and supervisor of parish schools before he became superintendent, a post he held from 1942- 1959. In addition to his work with Lafourche Parish Schools, Moncla worked toward .the establishment of Nicholls State University and received an honorary doctorate from the University for his Efforts. He was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Young Men's Benevolent Association and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. He is also survived by two grandchildren. ================= Assumption businessman dies Ronny Sternfels Funeral services were scheduled today for Ronny Sternfels, Assumption Parish businessman and former police jury president who died Saturday morning following an apparent heart attack, Sternfels, 50, was president of the Sternfels Insurance Co, Service Mortgage Co, and Service Real Estate Co. in Plattenville. He was also vice chairman of the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District. Sternfels was returning home with his three sons from a hunting trip when he died. Religious services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today at St. Anne Catholic Church in Napoleonville. Sternfels served on the Assumption Police Jury from 1964 to 1972 acting as police jury president the first two years of his two-term tenure. He was instrumental in establishing Assumption General Hospital. His public service also included seven years on the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District Board of Commissioners. He was appointed to the fresh water district post in August 1978 and had served as both treasurer and vice chairman of the board. He was also active in the business community serving on the boards of directors of Acadian Bank of Thibodaux, Bank of Commerce in White Castle and South Coast Gas Co. of Raceland. He was also administrative adviser to People's Federal Savings and Loan of Thibodaux. He was a member of the Life Producers Council of Travelers Insurance Co, and in 1964 ranked second in the national productions standing for Travelers agents.
