Marcello, a life-long resident of Thibodaux, served the school board, in various positions for 33 years. He was an agriculture teacher at Thibodaux High School for 10 ? years. He was appointed principal of Thibodaux Lower Elementary School in 1958, supervisor of instruction for junior and senior high schools in 1974 and parish supervisor of elementary education and supervisor of textbooks in 1977. He also served as parish director of career education and supervisor of librarians. Marcello received his elementary education at Lafourche Elementary School and graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1940. He attended Louisiana State University for three and one-half years before entering the armed forces in 1943. Later Marcello returned to LSU and received a bachelor's degree in 1947, Marcello served 42 months of active duty during World War II, including 21 months overseas, and participated in three major battle campaigns in the Pacific theatre. He attained the position of company commander during the war, entered the Louisiana National Guard as a first lieutenant in 1947 and retired with the rank of colonel in 1973 after nearly 30 years of military service. He served as president of the Lafourche Parish Teachers' Association, the Lafourche Parish Elementary Principals' Association, the Louisiana 11th District Principals' Association, the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Council, the Krewe of Christopher Carnival Club, vice-president and treasurer of the Thibodaux Lions Club, state treasurer of the Louisiana State National Guard Association and lay distributor of the Holy Eucharist at St. Joseph's. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, National Guard Association, various professional groups, and the Alpha Tau Alpha and Alpha Zeta honorary professional fraternities.
