He is survived by his wife Corrine Guidry DeFelice; children, Michael J. DeFelice, Baton Rouge; and Mrs. David (Carol) Boudreaux, Mrs. Edward (Elaine) Angelloz Jr. and Robert J. DeFelice, all of Thibodaux; and brothers, Henry DeFelice Jr., Cut Off, and Dave DeFelice, Raceland. DeFelice served as superintendent of Lafourche Parish Schools from 1959 until he retired in 1971. He was assistant superintendent from 1957-59. In 1940 and again from 1945-57, he was supervisor of schools in the parish and was principal of Galliano Junior High School from 1934-40. DeFelice earned a bachelor's degree in 1934 and a master's degree in 1949 from Louisiana State University. He also was a 1930 graduate of Cut Off High School. A veteran of World War II, DeFelice achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Army. He served in Europe from 1940-45 as a combat infantry officer of the 76th Infantry Division of the Third Army. DeFelice was the first company commander of the local National Guard unit, Company D. of the 156th Infantry. At the time of his death, DeFelice was serving as chairman of the board of Community Bank of Lafourche and was past president of the bank. DeFelice also served as president of the Lafourche Parish Teacher's Association, the Third District Parish Supervisors and the Louisiana School Superintendents Association. He was a member of the honor fraternities Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa as well as a member of the Coordinating Council for Higher Education for the state from 1972-74. While a member of the Board of Regents from 1975-80, he served as chairman in 1976-77.
